I built a tiny browser game creation tool for pixel games โ€“ PixelScript Studio

Hey everyone! ๐Ÿ‘‹

For quite a while I've been working on Pixel-Deck, a free community platform for pixel art, game assets and small browser games.

Recently I added something I've wanted to build for a long time:

๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ PixelScript Studio

The idea is pretty simple:

Draw your game. Code it. Make sounds. Press play.

PixelScript Studio is a browser-based tool focused on making small retro pixel games without needing a huge engine or complicated project setup.

You can create your sprites directly inside the editor, write simple PixelScript code, make retro sounds/music and immediately test your game.

The whole thing is designed around that old-school feeling of sitting in front of a tiny computer and just experimenting. ๐Ÿ‘พ

๐ŸŽฎ What you can currently do

  • Draw pixel sprites directly in the Studio
  • Write simple game logic with PixelScript
  • Create retro sounds
  • Build enemies, movement, collisions, effects and UI
  • Save/open projects
  • Export games
  • Share games directly on Pixel-Deck
  • Have your game appear as an actual arcade cabinet inside the Pixel-Deck 3D Arcade

โšก I also made a full game with it

To see how far I could push the system, I created ION WAKE, a fast retro space shooter with enemy waves, lock-on attacks, bosses, particles, scoring and more.

The entire game was built using PixelScript Studio.

That project basically became my stress test for the engine. ๐Ÿ˜„

Everything is free.

I'm still actively working on PixelScript and I'd genuinely love to hear feedback from other game developers.

Especially:

What would PixelScript need for YOU to actually build a small game with it?

Commands? Better sprite tools? More audio features? Examples? Tutorials? Something completely different?

I'd love to keep improving it. ๐Ÿ‘พโค๏ธ

Thanks for checking it out!

Awesome work love the website definitelly deserves way more attention

Hey! Really cool work on your project. I'm a 3D artist working in Blender (game-ready 3D models for Unity), and I'd love to model 1 free test prop (small custom prop or item) from your backlog so you can check my mesh quality in-game. Feel free to reply here or reach out at roman.zbor.uk@gmail.com (Discord: antinarrys) if you'd like to test an asset!
