Neat game! I played this on stream today (recording here) and I also ended up breaking it with one of the upgrades like another commenter did.

The resolution is also more than 160x144 like someone else pointed out, but besides that, I think it’s a cool concept for a game!

I did many things wrong, and I probably should have researched more, but it was my first time making a GameBoy style game, so I didn’t really know any better.

For the bug, I tried to playtest it, and because of this exact problem, I had a system to limit the number of coins and remove new ones if there were too many, but it didn’t work. I also added TNT and coin eaters to try to balance it, but that didn’t really work either.

I also had a power-up system where all the power-ups were coin-based, like an atom bomb that would explode all the coins and things like that, but I couldn’t make the art for them in time, so I removed it.

Thanks for playing it! It was really cool to see someone streaming and playing my game, and I hope you at least enjoyed it a little bit!

Thank you so much! I’m really glad you enjoyed it. I was still learning a lot while making this game, so reading this makes all the development chaos feel worth it.

Oh cruel twist of fate, what has the world come to when a chest has to guard its own locks. Dodging was smooth and the enemy knockback was very satisfying. Great work! I like.

Developer

Poor chest, just trying to live a peaceful life and suddenly it has to defend itself from everyone. Glad the combat felt satisfying though! Thanks a lot for playing and for the kind words.

I think I broke the game with one upgrade XD. Very fun game to play!

I can also see a little inspiration from Vampire Survivors. The gameplay feels smooth, the controls work well, and it really feels like a Game Boy game. The sounds and music are also fun to listen to.

Great game overall! Just patch that upgrade. 😄

Developer(+1)

Yeah, that upgrade is definitely a little too powerful. I wanted the upgrades to feel a bit crazy, but that one went way too far. I’m really glad you enjoyed the game though, especially the overall Game Boy feel. And yes, Vampire Survivors was definitely one of the inspirations. Thanks a lot for playing and for the feedback!

game play was really smooth and give a player chance to dodge correctly. and also enemeis knokback movement while attacking was so good .

Developer

Thank you for playing! I was a bit worried the game would feel too chaotic once more enemies started spawning, so I’m really glad it still felt controllable. I had a lot of fun tweaking the combat until it felt satisfying. Really appreciate the feedback!

Fun and an interesting concept, but it doesn't have the Gameboy's 160x144 resolution, which is one of the rules.

Developer

This is my settings for the it

Is rendering set to viewport? I definitely see more pixels than I should in your project.

Developer

Im not sure it shouldnt render more this is my full screen settings

For my project, I use Stretch Mode: Viewport, Aspect: Keep, and Scale Mode: Integer. That should keep it nice and pixelated.

Developer

This was my first time making a Gameboy style game and working with such a strict resolution, so I definitely made some mistakes there. Thanks for pointing it out! Next time I’ll use a proper Viewport setup so I can make sure it actually stays at 160x144.
