this seems heavily inspired by Dome Keeper but you all did a great job with it. the gameplay is smooth and the graphics are nicely done! the music is pretty short and repetitive, but it didn’t get tiring to me, so that’s a plus.

however, Dome Keeper has a few elements that really add tension and challenge to it that you’ve left out:

  • you have to actually make your way back up to the top to manually defend your dome. with the weapons being on autofire in this, i didn’t need to go back up top when the aliens attacked. i could just keep digging and go up when i had enough money to get a new upgrade. not only was this a lot easier, but i think it’s kind of a shame because it meant i missed the aliens attacking most of the time and i barely got to see the cool looking UFOs you made.
  • it would have been nice to have a loud audio signal when the timer was ticking down to zero and when it hits zero. a change in the music that adds some intensity there would also be cool. but again, since you don’t really need to defend yourself, this wasn’t total necessary.
  • you have to carry the resources back up to the top and you move slower as you carry more resources. there’s always this tension in the gameplay in Dome Keeper because you have to decide whether you want to pick up one more resource and inch your way back up to the top or just leave it and come back for it later.

obviously, this is a game jam and i don’t expect you to be making a full commercial game like Dome Keeper. i just thought i’d point out how these elements really can add a lot to the gameplay. again, well done on the game!

Hi, really appreciate the response! I agree that we’ve skipped over the elements of Dome Keeper that makes it such a nerve-racking game at times. I love the first two points that you highlighted and we probably aim to implement those in the near future. As for other ways to add tension and challenge to the game, we will also look forward to exploring that. Again, thanks for your feedback, have a nice one!

cool! i hope you all keep working on it.
one more suggestion:
you all should consider adding screenshots and a bit of color/theming to your page! i really think it helps convince others to play your game if they can see how it looks first.
