A game that transports one back to the times when the only way to do some gaming in the backseat of your parents' van was on their Nokia phone!

Every design choice about this game is interesting. The "1-bit" binary art style, the 1:1 aspect ratio, the lack of the ability to maximize on one's 4K monitor... :D

But it's all cohesive nonetheless in what is likely the most retro gaming experience of the jam. The ability to control the camera and player separately, utilizing the former to plan out a journey, and the latter to navigate it across the many barriers that exist, work incredibly well together.

The maps are challenging, all the more so in dealing with the intended lag between the player's input and the on-screen character.

It all comes together well in Netlag / Netlap. I hope Motorola eventually licenses this game when technology goes in reverse!

Hope Motorola buys the concept soon, or at least a Shareware magazine does, I would love those juicy cents :D

about the “design choices”… half of those were totally unintentional:

  • The camera and player movement were actually just to debug but it worked so well I chose to leave it like that.
  • The general art style (specially all sprites and map tiles) were placeholders, intended to to used to create the map, then replaced in-game with more detailed sprites, i actually liked the low resolution of those 16x16 sprites, it gives a feeling of being an old DOS game running in Textmode with a modified character set.
  • I wanted to add “scale up” and “scale down” buttons here too (as I did with another game before) but I had issues getting special keys to work so… I couldn’t get that working in time. (I made the game in 12 hours and finished it monday at ~1:30 AM)

anyway, thanks for playing it! and sorry for the screen size inconvenience.
