How does your game meet GBJam's theme
In the game, you explore ZYMA, a civilization that was once a utopia in an otherwise unremarkable location. Now, it's just a shell of what it once was. ZYMA as a civilization is "Old Gold."

So, we had to cut some things from our game in order to submit on time that would've really helped connect it to the secondary theme, but what I said above is true and showed in our intro. Other than that, though, the theme is not really prevalent. Sorry about that!

the intro was breath taking i loved the idea and different from many games in this jam it uses game physics . it doesnt look like its your first because it was so good.

this part was the first but i got stuck and it was frustrating but i got over it and the rest of the game was flawless

Really good mechanic! Loved it. Spent quite a few minutes rebraining to separate what is left and right black and white forward backward. I think this gameplay does what few games do, provoke your brain to work differently to overcome a challenge. Although there is a really opportunity to revisit the progression and think about the level design. This game is awesome, congrats for the submission.

Oh no, i'm stuck. Interesting gameplay, difficult but very very interesting. Good job!

Developer

Thanks for the screenshot, that's super helpful as we update the map! Glad you found it interesting! We've gotten a lot of feedback about the difficulty and we'll be prioritizing making it easier to get the hang of things before introducing more challenging areas.

The idea of a pinball game focused on navigating the environment seems interesting. The graphics are pleasant and minimalist, and the calm soundtrack fits the game's vibe.

However, the game feels difficult right from the start; I would prefer a more gradual difficulty curve.

As for the "Game Boy" feel, I think the game is right in line with titles released for that console.

Glad you liked it! We're hoping it feels similar to classic Gameboy pinball games while still feeling unique with the exploration aspect, so it's nice to hear that it translated well for you.

Maybe the game has potential, but I didn’t see it. Nothing caught my attention. It completely doesn’t fit the theme. The intro is nice, but that’s the only thing I can praise. Complex controls should never be introduced right at the start, otherwise it completely kills the interest. I didn’t even bother trying.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the honest critique! Our interpretation of the theme was that this old civilization (shown in the intro) was "old gold" but we ran out of time to implement the full idea into the gameplay. Appreciate the feedback about easing players into the controls too, that's something we'll keep in mind as we continue working on the game :)

I agree with everyone about the intro, it evokes a strong sense of wonder and mystery. Would love to see what the full vision to tie it all together could have been. Music was also intriguing but the audio mix was very quiet.

Used to play a ton of the pinball game bundled with Windows, and also the easter egg one hidden in Word 97. Nostalgia indeed. Your game also reminds me of Yoku's Island Express, which I haven't played myself yet, but has a similar pinball exploration concept. I got the dash and explored a bit but I got stuck too. Congrats on your first jam game! Hope to see you guys keep cooking.

That intro looked like a Mobius layout, amazing.

Really interesting take on pinball too. I never would have thought to turn it into an exploration game, so it was neat seeing a classic mechanic used that way.

Would love to see more of that intro art style carried into the actual levels.

Developer

The art department (me) for sure allocated too much time to that intro and not enough to the game itself but we're super happy with how the intro turned out and excited to flesh out the actual levels more in the next update!

awesome! I’m following you guys! Looking forward to seeing more.

The idea of it being a pinball game got me confused for a bit but i thought it was INCREDIBLE ! Loved the gameplay and how simple it is but yet is also challenging. While playing the game I think I made it crash when the ball entered a smaller zone of it's collision and made the game count so much collisions it crashed. This small flaw does NOT make the game bad or unplayable, it's just a simple bug I wanna point to the devs. I dont think it matches A LOT with the vibe of the gameboy but in general is a pretty good game! Good job on it :)

Developer(+1)

Good callout on the crash you found - we'll get that fixed in our next update! Appreciate all the kind words too :)

Went from a crazy beauitifully done intro to a game play that doesn't quite match it or was confused by it. Literally the intro is beautiful whatever you were doing with that go for it

I feel like there's a strong idea here and I love the weird desolate environment in the intro but I'm not really getting it through the ball/pinball mechanics. I also apparently suck at this game and kept getting stuck lol. I think there's something here and would love to see it fleshed out more!

Also love the song, big props

Developer

Thanks! I loved making the music and we plan to update the graphics to match the into vibe soon.

(also there was another song, if you didn't get to hear it you can find it in the description)

Got soft locked very easily. A very good arcade game soundtrack with good melodic variation. I understand the approach regarding the secondary theme, but I can't quite make the connection to the environment setup and the gameplay. Congrats on your first game jam.

Developer

Thanks for the comment! Definitely would have liked to put more time into connecting the story we set up in the intro to the gameplay itself. Definitely learned a lot about time management during our first jam and hope to improve for the next one!

love the concept, but the precision that i need to do to bonce that ball around is beyond what i can do
