Hey, i played this for a while and well done on creating a nice atmosphere and a good game loop. What i loved most was how the audio created a very calming backdrop for a relaxing fishing game. A few suggestions on the gameplay - I liked the reaction game - i think its a good fit for a game like this. But the others need to be refined a bit more. The overall vibe of the game is relaxing and casual, so the minigames should be very forgiving, and that was not thecase here - just one misstep and you los the fish in that place which seemed quite unfair. Art wise, i liked the models and color scheme used. The UI needs some polishing, but i like the minimalist approach. The environmental SFX like the water flowing when the boat was moving was a cool effect! Well done on this, you have a really good concept and some polishing on the gameplay will make it more enjoyable :)

OKAY, THIS IS A REALLY DARK AND CREATIVE WAY TO INTERPRET โ€œTHE LONG WAY HOMEโ€! ๐ŸŽฃ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ

The idea of fishing in a peaceful lake while slowly uncovering pieces of a buried hometown is genuinely intriguing. I really liked how the fishing mechanic isn't just there for gameplay it becomes the way the character reconnects with his past, which gives every item you pull from the water a bit more meaning. The atmosphere and relaxing music also fit that mysterious, dreamlike feeling really well, especially for a first game jam.

The fishing minigames are a cool idea, but I think they could use a little more polish and player feedback. A short moment before each minigame starts to show what type of challenge is coming, along with clearer success/failure sounds or visuals, would make them much easier to understand. The environment could also become even stronger with some extra atmosphere like fog, lighting changes, or more visual storytelling around the lake.

The biggest strength for me is definitely the concept and the mystery behind the lake. There is a lot of potential here for expanding the story and making each discovered object reveal another piece of the character's past. REALLY PROMISING FIRST JAM GAME! ๐ŸŽฃโœจ๐Ÿ  KEEP GOING WITH THIS IDEA AND GOOD LUCK WITH THE JAM! ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐ŸŽฎ

I enjoyed the fishing minigame mechanic. Though the only one I ever got was the timing one. The typing ones felt like they gave me no time to be prepared.

Visually things looked solid. Sound could have helped with the immersion.

Solid submission!

Very unique experience!

The gameplay experience was solid. There were 3 minigames in the fishing and all of them struggle with one big issue, and that is the start up too quickly. The one where you need to type the keys in quickly starts up way too fast, and does not give you time to react, and before you can even type the first letter, you failed the minigame. This issue applies to all the minigames, and I think having a short grace period when the minigame starts to let the player identify the minigame would go a long way.

Visually the game was decent. I liked the terrain a lot, even if it was fairly simple. Only thing is that I noticed the shadows on the boat looked very low quality, and the quality of keyboard key textures were very low. Other than that, I saw some clipping in the mountains but overall still good.

Audio was ok. The music is very relaxing and very fitting, but there was a distinct lack of sound effects and especially in the minigames.

The theme use was very unique. I liked how it wrapped around in the story at the end.

Overall, this one of the most creative games in the jam!

Really unique way to interpret the theme. I like it! The story was engaging and the fishing minigames were pretty interesting. The main thing it was lacking was a bit of polish and player feedback especially with the minigames. I want to feel satisfied when I succeed and it be clear when I do something wrong. Overall really good first game jam though :D

Very interesting concept for the theme. I liked the game. The twist of the town was very interesting.

Stuff I liked were the art style and the 3d stuff. I also liked the music in the background and the whole ambiance of the game.

Some stuff I didn't really like too much were how the minigames were closing really fast and I didn't really get them too much. This was a pretty good game and would like to see you do well! Also, if you would like, please check out my game too!

This is certainly a cool concept for a story, the mystery kept me going. It's nice you had the idea of several mini games, only having one would have made game tedious. the The mini games were reacting a bit weirdly with my French keyboard though, and some of them were straight up closing on me instantly.

Hard to believe it's your first jam, this is very promising! Keep up the good work!

hi im the designer because why not

Interesting concept! I like this different approach to the theme!

Some tips for better visuals in unity:

  • To make keys icons not blurry set Filter mode from Bilinear to Point
  • set canvas to scale with screen size so it doesnt get messy

overall solid entry :DD

A game that caught my attention right away, because before starting this jam I was actually working on something similar. Itโ€™s really well made, although it can get a bit repetitive. The atmosphere is absolutely beautiful and immersive, though. Iโ€™d love to see more games like this in the future. If you have some time, feel free to check out my game too! ;)

The concept of this is fantastic and has SO MUCH potential. The idea of an oblivious, haunted guy fishing up random items from his past is really great. The game just needs more time to grow.

In its current state, the visuals, animations, textures, etc. are very basic. With a bit of fog, a moody sunset sky, and a better water shader, this would make a good impression. As for gameplay, the minigames are okay, they just need fleshing out.

The writing is decent, I can imagine the character speaking in a haunted, dreamlike way.

The music does a good job setting the atmosphere. Again, with more time, I genuinely think this could be something pretty special.

Congrats on your first gamejam!

Feels incomplete, the plot twist about his hometown is interesting though

First of all- congrats on finishing your first jam game!

Let's start with the gameplay. It's a bit of a mixed bag. The only minigame I managed to find anything is the timing one. All of the minigames lack player feedback. Some sound effect or a visual feedback would be a nice hint that I'm going good or bad. The game reminded me of "dredge" a bit. They only have one mechanic for fishing. In game jam projects the general rule is it's better to have one polished minigame, that 3 unpolished. From the other hand the atmosphere was nice. I enjoyed swimming around and fishing for memories.

As for the graphics and audio- also a mixed bag. Music and sound were good, and worked well to create a serene atmosphere. The graphics from the other hand are a bit unpolished. I think having a forest and a mountains in the background was enough- no need for a giant wall. The character could also use some animations (check mixamo for free animations for 3d characters).

The theme was well utilized. The only thing- don't give it away in the description! It would be cooler for the players to find out the plot for themselves. I mean, the writing is ok, and it get's the theme across.

Over all- this is a pretty good first-time entry. Keep it up!
