Interesting concept! Cool environment, and nice art style. Great work!

I'm a little surprised at all the .so files included in the Linux build: steam audio makes sense (great for spatial audio in VR!), but there also libmush_multiplayer_native.so, libphonon.so, and libterrain.so. Is there a hidden multiplayer mode? A big hidden world which needs a terrain system?

Developer

Thanks for playing. There is in fact a p2p multiplayer mode with voice chat/visemes/VRM avatar tracking which is what libmushi is (https://github.com/hiinaspace/godot-network-audio plus some other extensions), it's in the menu if you want to give it try with either other VR or desktop players. And https://github.com/TokisanGames/Terrain3D  is what I used for the heightmap terrain. libphonon is also part of steam-audio, not sure why it's a separate .so though. I do really like HRTF spatialization in steam-audio in VR yeah, it adds a lot over the basic attenuation and panning in vanilla godot when you can move your head around and make little adjustments. It'd be nice if it were natively included, even if the other fancy steam-audio features like occlusion and probe baking aren't.

Did i hear NixOS? Nice, im on nixos too! haha

Really enjoyed the game, really chill and comfy. The controls are nice, and the lantern mechanism is smooth. Personally enjoyed playing around with the lantern. And gameplay is clear to understand, really liked that you put progress bar in the settings.

Overall very well done.

Random suggestion:

  • add trails behind the mushi

Mushi Rancher. Played on Windows. Beautiful night sky. Mostly used the red light to guide the mushi, just felt faster. Full body avatar is a nice touch again.

Before I run this Ihave to ask what is going on with the linux release files? Custom launch scripts and bundling libSDL and a whole lot of other libraries?

Developer

Oops, thanks for the feedback. I uploaded a new build that should be much more vanilla (though it still includes libraries for steam-audio, terrain3d, and my custom p2p networking/voice chat library for the experimental multiplayer).

I build/test on NixOS, but my linux testing friends use other distros, so bundling literally everything was the quick and dirty path to make it work. Windows-style, I guess.
