Funny tongue. There was an old vrchat map from 2021 or so with this same concept (hop around and snag insects with a tongue from your headset), that also had stuff like collectible frog costumes. I can't remember what it was called unfortunately, but good proof of this concept.
I also got this working on the steam frame with lepton, which was cool.
