I thought the game turned out pretty great as a demo. The theme of “non-existence” bleeds into the museum’s artworks, which seem to hint at why Ash might currently be in a state of “nothing” (the artworks seem to have a focus on the forest/greenery and emptiness which is similar to the "transparent garden area"). My favourite piece was the unfinished bird with the massive blank frame.
The level design feels liminal and uncanny, adding a subtle creepiness to the experience. Ash’s appearance reinforces that feeling, with massive eyes that pierce through the darkness and bloody claw marks across her back.
The puzzles weren’t as interesting to me, although I thought the Fog of War effect was really cool. The limited visibility and transparent walls revealing your desktop behind them added to the atmosphere. At the moment, the garden puzzle feels more like a confusing maze, but it’s still pretty creepy when you get thrown into the unknown so I'd say it's effective at making you feel unsettled.
The story isn’t finished yet as it's still in prototype but it very obviously wants to tell a story/send a message. Everything feels so unique and weird, and I’d be interested to see where it all leads. And seeing that this is coming from the author who wrote “Dress down” (awesome game), I think it’ll be in great hands!
Overall, I liked the way the game is presented and the way the art-style conveys this feeling of “emptiness/nothingness” while still being creepy.
