How does your game meet GBJam's theme
Cozy Coin Resto DX is a game about dusting off OLD GOLD coins! Later in the game, you get to put those OLD GOLD coins inside of a very new and very experimental machine that reads OLD (perhaps GOLDen) memories stored within them!

While I like the coins and the history nerds stuff, I feel like a game should give you the answers inside your game, I guess I’m not treating as a quiz game maybe due to the coin dusting, still feels a bit off to me. The dusting mechanic is generous enough to be not annoying with the precision, I do ask you though to next time use a different gameboy scene transition, the white fullscreen flash can be hard on the eyes in web builds, so if you export there as well, keep it in mind.
Graphics were okay, coins looked cool, maybe the tiger/lion distiction could be clearer but that is pixel art, we all learn
Music and sfx were not bad, my only complaint here is the relative “dissonance” between the dusting and the quiz parts, the second felt more energetic, harsh which kinda clashes with the chill experience of the coin dusting.
Overall a neat idea, well done!
this is such a unique game! i enjoyed looking at all the nice coin art, very cool. you even took the care and didn't make the engravings centered on all the coins, like historical currency actually looks a lot of the time. i think the quizzes could be a little harder or more engaging, maybe somewhat similar to how the game golden idol does things. but cool either way, thanks for sharing!
of course!! thanks for playing!! have you seen my spreadsheet of coins? all coin art is based off real historical coins! the ending "history" memories are all fiction, however. anyways, thanks for enjoying!!
The game has great bones for sure. I think, for me personally, the dusting is very repetitive so I lose interest more quickly. If there were other mechanics to cleaning up the coins that would make it feel a lot more engaging. Perhaps maybe you start with one level of brushing, then next level you also maybe having to buff out scratches, but if you use the brush on the scratch it doesn't work. Loved the artwork and that all the coins were not the same.
Nice job on the game!
thanks!! I do like that idea. I could probably add it after the jam! :)
This was a cute game! I laughed a lot at the different histories of how the coins came to be made. It was goofy but in a fun way. I think you could have made the coin mechanism a little bit more engaging and less same-y if the dirt spots were in more varied locations, and required a varied number of brushes to clean off. Just a little bit of variability can really make a difference in perceived repetition for cleaning-type games.
Nice job on the jam, I had fun playing through the game!
thank you so much!! that's a great idea! maybe I should add it in in a post-jam update.

Played on the Game Boy 🕹️
Noticed 5 colors was being used during dusting of coins. (This happend on the Game Boy build only).
Other than that the coin graphics looked neat.
Music was repeditive but well composed.
To me, gameplay felt more like a chore than enjoyable :') Just klicking on dirt did sadly not feel fun at all.
I rate this high in the quirky area and second theme though as it is somewhat of a fresh idea and solid old gold.
Good job!
thanks for playing!!
I don't know how you're seeing more than 4 colors. I can provide the actual images and their palettes to prove that they aren't using any more than 4.
with the amount of time we had, music had to be short but listenable! I think JWG nailed it!
I mean, I wouldn't wanna spend my time there in that lab dusting coins either! XD
thanks for the rating!!
I had a look at the web build and it differs from the game boy build.
When playing on the game boy, the dirt on the coin is brown ish as well as the brush.
Not sure why there is a difference on the 2 though.
are you playing on an emulator that auto-assigns palettes because it's set in GBC mode? that's the only thing I can think of. there's 0 difference from the rom to the web build. I have no idea how you're getting a brown-ish color on the sprites... I made sure to stay on the 4 color limit.
Playing on my game boy advance with a flash card. So maybe it does assign some colors on its own then 🤔
Game Boy can’t even have more than 4 colors, so… i’m not sure how that’s possible lol. 🤷
Sorry, game boy advance.

Fun little game! I do wish I could speed up the dusting process a bit. Maybe by mashing the button?
Cool music and art too!
thanks!! I do like that idea of mashing to speed it up... maybe post-jam update where that happens? I think it'd be a little tricky to make, but I could probably do it!!
Creative gameplay, although a bit too repetitive after a few coins. Big plus on the art/graphics and the music! Very well done, really felt/played like a Gameboy game.
thanks!! I really appreciate the praise on the graphics! (I don't consider myself to be an artist, but I definitely have been getting better and better at drawing!) and yeah, I did also feel it was a bit repetitive, but I didn't really know what other gameplay "mechanic" I could've implemented regarding dusting coins. ah well! glad you enjoyed!!
I like the cleaning combo mixed with the quiz about the coins features. Forced some time to be attentive to then answer the questions.
what's more fun than paying attention? XD
I appreciated that I could play this on my phone. If I were to offer any improvement ideas it'd probably be nice to see some text about the coins before you clean them up, since there was a quiz about them with no way for the player to know the answer in game. The same text setup you uad the memory machine use could've been like a manifest or something for the coin sets. Another minor improvement would be to clean up the jaggies on the coins, but I get time probably meant hurrying there. Otherwise, I found no bugs, everything played nicely. Nice job.
thanks for playing!! yes, some of the art was definitely rushed because of the time constraints, which is a little unfortunate because I feel like it turned out *really* good! my mom had come over to see what I was making and she had also said the same thing about knowing the info prior to dusting the coins/answering the quizzes. probably should've thought more about that, but again, time limit. and lastly, playing on mobile. I'm so glad someone noticed!! GB Studio (which me and my partner made this in) allows for a web export of an actual .gb rom, which also supports mobile gameplay! (which I enabled in the itch project settings.)
thanks for the feedback! :)
a fun & cozy cleaning game, nice entry :)
thanks!!
