Hi there!

I’m making a kind of roguelike game. It’s going to be a top-down, pixel art game, cyber-fantasy. I may change the story while developing but at the moment I thought about a cybersecurity agent trying to defeat a black-hat hacker

I’ve already prototyped the basic mechanics like shooting, moving around, an enemy that follows you (doesn’t really do anything yet, doesn’t even say hi) and level which looks like a grid (because it’s a grid). Done just a few things before starting this devlog, just enough to convince myself I could do it

I’ve already published a game without a devlog and a devlog without a game here 2 years ago…I abandoned the project (Nameless Warrior) ‘cause I didn’t find the game engine I was using suited for the game I was creating

So for 2 years I tried other things: since Unreal Engine works better for 3D games I learned 3D art with blender but I soon found out that creating a 3D game is exhausting. I found Godot, started learning it but I really procrastinated on the idea of making a new videogame so I went all in for cybersecurity (mostly studying fundamentals rather than specializing). Now that I got that itch about making games again I wondered “what if I make a game but with cyber vibes?” so that’s what I am doing

I hope you’ll follow me through this journey!

Not actively working on this because I'm busy with school and other hobbies but I've still managed to do a few things

On the art side I made the main character (and named her Ellie, a name that randomly came into my mind but she looks like an Ellie) and her gun (but not the projectiles yet), made a sword at first but didn't really like it (and also didn't like the idea of making a melee animation and mechanics either)

On the code side I made the character flip depending on where the mouse is on the screen and the gun shoot and rotate based on the mouse position. I know this might seem easy but I had some fight with Godot since it's kinda hard to picture how to implement mechanics in GDScript, nodes and signals from somebody that comes from Blueprint and actors (actually after 2+ years I kind of forgot about them too)

I think I'm going to name this level "Bad Traffic" and it's going to include SYN drones trying to approach you, ICMP packets being shot right in your face, and I'll see what else

I wish I was sure about the game story but I invent it, then change some art, mechanics or idea and suddenly it doesn't make sense anymore (I forgot about this kind of pain)

I'll leave a little video of the game below (imported as a GIF) and some images of the enemies I made

I know the drone looks like a flying rat, I wanted to change it but got attached too soon
