Anything else you'd like to share about your game or development process?
This game jam was a big learning experience for me. I worked on the game while learning new things such as animation, coding, dialogue systems, and game design. I also had to manage my time and reduce the scope when I realized I had limited time left. The game is still unfinished, but I learned a lot during development and plan to continue improving it after the jam.

AWWW, THIS HAS SUCH A CHARMING HAND-DRAWN FEEL! ๐Ÿ ๐ŸŽจโœจ

I really like the idea of Alex having to communicate with different characters to find his way home. The handmade visual style gives the game a lot of personality, and the character's quirky movement and direction changing animation are especially fun. For a first game jam, learning animation, coding, dialogue systems, and game design while building this is a huge achievement.

Since you already have the core idea working, I think the biggest next step would be expanding the conversations and journey while polishing the movement. Clearer walkable boundaries, smoother directional movement, and a small idle animation could make the character feel even more alive. The hand-drawn style is definitely something worth leaning into for the full version.

REALLY NICE FIRST JAM PROJECT! ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ”ฅ Even though it's unfinished, thereโ€™s a lot of personality here and a solid foundation to continue building on. Keep going, and good luck with the jam! โœจ๐Ÿ’ช

Well done on getting your first submission! I really like the hand drawn aesthetic and text, feels unique and you should definitely lean into this for future jams!

Some suggestions on the mechanics: The movement controller should be refined further - should be able to move left even when up or down is pressed etc. and vice versa. Boundaries of the walkable area should be visually made evident. While i think that the movement animation is quite quirky, and unique, the character sprite should still maintain dimensions as it is moving up and down and also have some idle animation.

Overall great start to your game jam journey, all the best :)

Love the style!

Clearly swinging for something here. I wish there were more to experience, and maybe there will be in the future, but I really like the walking animation and the way the character morphs when changing directions.

Something really charming about the hand-crafted aesthetic.

Keep up the awesome work!

P.s. there are plenty of threads and conversations in the Discord and the community section of itch.io about scope creep during jams. I donโ€™t think anyone ever really gets it right, but there might be some good advice for future jams about how to properly scope your work to the time you have available.

Good game with charming visuals. Evidently its not finished, though I wait eagerly for the full version, as the art style is very cute.
