Overall, I enjoyed the story and pacing, I truly felt for Mavia. I find it hard for a story to always convey emotional weight but all the way up until the end I felt invested in the story.(Even if some parts personally felt rough out of personal preference 3D has truly spoiled me.)

Positives:

1. I genuinely felt the characters had their own personality and breadth.

2. The music felt cohesive and fitting.

3. The setting felt cohesive and real. You can feel the tension in the world the characters live in.

4. The art style (Even though I personally find 2D... taxing.) truly was eye catching at some parts and was able to keep my attention.

Negatives:

1. in the beginning and it might be intentional, but Ruby asking Adam a question and him saying "I know" felt odd to me.

2. The music and sound, the sliders being preset is nice, but it didn't help in all spots, I would have preferred to see it properly mixed and the volume sliders left for the player to tweak themselves (Some stuff was too quiet while others were overly loud with the same settings.)

If itch let me I would rate it at like 4.5/5 overall. Genuinely did a good job in my opinion, literally the first I have reviewed that got way more positives than negatives. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

This was super well done! I got spooked (or unnerved may be the better word) a good few times, and you did such a great job setting up the world/story in such a clean, tight way - I think it's impressive to be able to create something so compact like this that's going to stick with readers afterward! Also I will never forgive Adam and I'm glad [redacted] :)

Developer

Thank you so much for playing it.

I am glad you liked the world building. Some of my previous games shared the same setting though much less developed so I had a base to work with.

And yeah Adam is the first proper villain I have ever written. Normally I am like "There are no bad people just systems that cause people to do bad things" but nah,  some people just suck. Which makes the good ending so much sweeter. :)

I liked him! Well, I liked to hate him lol - at the first "babe" I was like "oh we're going to have a problem huh"

A tense, taut supernatural noir--really enjoyed how atmospheric the story was, and the unflinching approach to darker topics. Lovely work!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing it. This praise means a lot to me, especially coming from you. I still remember fondly the absolute gem of a game you made last year and I am super excited to play Even at Star-Time this weekend.

A good game! I liked the more darker aspect the story was going for! I will say that transitions were a tad jarring from time to time but it didn't hinder my reading experience!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing with. And good feedback with the transitions, I will keep that in mind.

Very good game! The art style is well polished and I loved the story (I got a bad ending lol, I'm not going to spoil), you have a nice variety of backgrounds and expressions!

My only advice would be to add more sound effects to the game, that would really upgrade the experience.

In conclusion, nice game!! very good job :)

Developer

Thank you for playing my game!

Well, you got the ending you deserved for not sticking with best girl. :) Kidding, I am glad you had fun.

And yes, I will look into adding more sound effects after I have recovered from the jam. Good suggestion.

GREAT first impression of Mavia, I love her so much she's my favourite character and omg I am so invested in her and Rubys dynamic! But I also really like Levin... The character's are all just written very well I like them a lot. Great job :)

Finally someone who has a dyslexic-friendly font option. It's much appreciated. (There is a lot of other entries that I have discarded for being unreadable for me...)

Developer

Thank you for playing my game. I am glad you could read it with the dyslexic-friendly font option. I care a lot about accessibility in my games though I am sure there are things I could still improve.  I don't have the best eyesight myself.

Just in case you didn't know or for other people reading, you can press shift+a in any renpy game to open the accessibility options and change the font.

Submitted

I didn't know the shift+a trick so thank you. Sadly that only works on older versions of RenPy since I updated I only got text to speech options when I do that... It works with older games such as Z.A.T.O but newer like those in this jam only give text to speech (This includes yours.).

Developer

Oh no, when you open the shift+a menu at the top you need to click "Text" to get the text options now. Yeah, the redesign kind of sucks. Took me a while to find it myself. But it is still there.

Super good job on the UI, that stood out to me first. I like that you went for a more mature writing style this time.

You didn't mention where you got the backgrounds from in your description. Or did you apply a filter over stock photos? Either way they felt pretty cohesive. (actually I just checked and it says in the game but I don't want to backspace since that ended with a compliment.)

Good job trying to create a more expansive world in this game, it really worked with the tone and style. :).

Developer

Thank you for playing my game.

I am tackling some really heavy topics this time so I am glad it read as mature. I was really nervous about it, especially as the game is more openly political than my previous ones.

And yeah I finally found some deep shader magic that made my 3d renderings look super coherent and nice. I am really happy with the workflow.
