Very clever idea, and classic OLC! Love the smooth hexagons that make up the flake. Nice work :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks! The hexagons are fun :) What makes you say classic OLC? A nice complement!

For me, classic OLC is a focused concept, developed in a clear and interactive way that’s both fun and interesting. Yes, definitely a compliment!

I really love graphical/mathematical simulations - I appreciate the resource links you provided too (I tried to find actual resources for how to model snowfall a few years ago, and came up with nothing).

I wasn't able to get anything far from your original pattern?  so, not sure what the sliders did.  still, cool simulation.  Do you have a source/repro?

Developer

Thanks for checking it out! It definitely took me some time to find some resources on snowflake simulation : )

The snow flakes are actually very sensitive to the sliders in certain parameter regimes, and other areas not. You can really see this when you put in numbers for the parameter values, but I figured the user wouldn't like this, so I just made sliders. It's a hard place to explore too, with 3 parameters, so it can sometimes take time to find new configurations. I don't have a public repo for it right now, but I can let you know if I make one. Did you want to play with the code?

I made a square snowflake! Who knew?

Developer(+1)

The square snowflake, amazing 😂

Sort of related, I was considering adding other grid types, like square or otherwise, but I just have it as a hexagonal grid for now. I imagine other grid types can grow other snowflake symmetries...
