Really nice game! The art and the voice acting are great, and the writing is good too, although the story is still at the beginning. Also, the bartending minigame was fun, and I really appreciated that the player is given a bunch of possible drinks and has to find the best match for the situation.

I want to work at The Veil too. The place I used to work at went under, so I'm looking for a new job. And you're telling me I get to see badass monster characters too? Please hire me!

I really loved the character designs. The voice acting matched the designs really well too, and nothing felt out of place.

We talked about the UI a little on Discord before, and personally, I don't think the UI design itself was bad at all. If there's one thing I think could be improved, it would be the cursive font used for the names and notes. It might be easier or more familiar for native English speakers, but as a non-native English speaker, cursive can be pretty difficult for me to read.

Other than that, I didn't really have any issues with it!

Also, the boss character was absolutely my type. I loved his voice, and especially those occasional creepy expressions he makes. He was definitely one of my favorite characters!

I should recommend this game to my friend. They're into exactly this kind of character—and they love drinking too!

Such kind words! 😭

We were a little split on the font choice, and the legibility concern was definitely something we discussed. We like how the cursive font looks, but I agree, it can be a little hard to read, especially during the mixology minigame where things run together a little. We're planning on continuing to work on this once everyone's gotten a proper break and has time to look at stuff with fresh eyes, and your feedback is noted for discussion at that point, as well.

Thank you again for playing and for all the kindness, and don't worry, you're one of Odile's favorites too!

I’m sure there are fonts that still have that handwritten feel while being easier to read! Make sure you get plenty of rest!

Completely unrelated, but this is actually where I learned for the first time that lowballs exist, not just highballs.

so good!

What can I say? It's a masterpiece. The voice acting is what struck me first on this one -- there's a grandness to the speaking that hooks you. (The 'no nuance' line does seem to repeat twice -- is it on the clip for the line before it as well? Fafnir also mentions an appletini in voice when the text says Sputnik.) I love the handwritten style of the name box, and the beautiful, clean UI. The minigame is fun without being overly complex, and the whole cast is intriguing. Really beautiful art, and I really hope to see a continuation so I can read the rest of the stories. I went with Yuko on my first run, but definitely checking out the other two!

I have a big crush on the boss, though. She's my fave. I am her little bumblebee.

Thank you so much for all the kind words! All of us here at Ah! Real Games really appreciate the love that people have for the cast, and our voice actors are our pride and joy. We know there are a couple of small issues with voice lines, and I've been working to hammer those out where I can, but to see so much love for them fills us with so much hope for the future.

And yes, you are her little bumblebee. Don't forget!

OOF...Hard agree on Quetzal

I think she called me a dog and I think I feel things. Great art and VA work! There are some moments where maybe the voicelines didn't load..., but it was amazing nonetheless. I really liked the Marg route, her and her sister were great. +1 for more romance routes!

Wow~! Loved it! I loooove the side characters too - like Quetzal. Her design and VA were great! Horace too! We neeeeeed to be able to romance them!! (I left this review on the othe page too, sorry don't know where it's most visible - please keep it up!)

There is something weird going on with the background, it shifts from left to right from one line of dialogue to the other.

And the audio levels of the recordings don't have a standard volume. So either you change the volume with each new character or you will only be able to hear some of them, if not you risk your ear drums. Sometimes the music is too loud (even after changing the settings), so I don't know what's up with that.

But those are the slight things to fix. The art is really nice to look at and I had fun with the mini mixology part of the game; so much fun that I wish there was more interactivity or visuals of the drink being made and what not.

This game is worth a try and I hope more people give it chance.

Hello! I'm one of the team on this one, asking so I can help :D

  1. Just checking, but are you moving the mouse when this happens? The game utilizes parallax scrolling of sprites and backgrounds as an intentional effect attached to mouse movement, and if it bothers you, we included an option to turn it off! However, if it's otherwise, we'll definitely try to look into why that's happening, and we'd like to know if this is for the web build or downloaded version!
  2. I appreciate the feedback on the audio levels; we are aware that things need to be equalized a lot more effectively (and I'm currently learning how, in order to work to do so)!

All said, I appreciate your grace with our little jam project, and I'm super glad you enjoyed the mixology portions. We're hoping to make a more complete version of Welcome to The Veil in the future, and the feedback on wanting more tactile presentation is extremely helpful. I hope you enjoyed your time with our girls and hopefully you'll give us a try again down the line!

No, I was playing on android. So me simply tapping the screen to get the next dialogue would make the screen shift to one side, the next tap to the other; despite it being on the same place.

(1 edit) (+1)

Ah, that actually makes a lot of sense. Thank you for the feedback, that definitely has to do with how the parallax scrolling works. We'll look into how to fix this going forward, and I'm sorry it was disorienting for you!
EDIT: Currently, the only solution we have to this problem is to turn off parallax scrolling in the Preferences menu if you're on mobile. My apologies, the only other way to fix it on our end would be just to automatically do that for you.

Don't apologize! These are random little unexpected things that sometimes happen. I hope you guys don't have much trouble finding a fix.

well done! the world was really easy to get immersed in, and everything felt absurdly polished considering the one-month timeframe. it's already been mentioned that the bgm/sfx vs. va balance could use some work, but that's pretty easily resolvable by fine tuning some sliders on the player's end. huge props to the composer, too - the mixes were crisp, and the instrumentation was sparse but subtle, blending in pretty seamlessly with everything else.

once again, well done - y'all should be immensely proud of yourselves !!

Composer here. You just put a big smile on my face :)

The visuals are spot on, and I really enjoyed the storyline and the variety of characters. The only downside was that, after the first night, the game started crashing every 3 or 4 minutes, also, I would have turned up the volume on the voice acting, which was sometimes a little quiet compared to the music. Other than that, the experience was very positive, and I can’t wait to play the sequel

Developer(+2)

We diagnosed the issue that was crashing the web build of the game and have fixed it. In doing so, we figured out a way to include all of the voice lines in the web build! Please give it another try some time, thanks for your feedback.

This is so good I need more.
