Great game, absolutely love the visuals and the animation style for the crab! Controls are a little tricky to get a hang of but great project

Theme: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The crab + turtle idea is really cute 😭 I like that the turtle isnt just there for the story either. Having to keep up with it while platforming gives the whole journey a bit more personality. The dash and wall movement also make it more interesting than a basic platformer.

I think the biggest thing to improve is how the mechanics are introduced. There are quite a few things you can do and some of them arent immediately obvious. Id add tiny tutorial moments at the start instead of explaining everything at once. Like first a safe jump section. Then a wall jump. Then a place where you HAVE to dash. That way the player learns each mechanic by actually using it.

The dash itself could probably feel better too. Having it follow the mouse gives you freedom but in a platformer it can also make things less precise. Maybe let the player choose between mouse aim and movement-key direction in the settings. That would make it much easier for people who just want quick left/right/up dashes.

The seagulls also seem a little too punishing. Id give the crab a very short invulnerability window after hitting one so you dont damage the bird and still immediately get hurt yourself. A little white flash on the bird or some particles would also make it much clearer that your attack actually worked. Maybe even a tiny health indicator for tougher enemies.

Visually I really like the characters and animations. The crab especially has a lot of personality. The only thing Id work on is making all the art feel a little more like it belongs to the same game. Some backgrounds and characters have slightly different levels of detail. Matching the colors and outlines a bit more would help a lot.

Audio fits the chill feeling nicely but some sounds could use better balancing. Id also add slight pitch variation to repetitive sounds like jumping or dashing so hearing them again and again doesnt get tiring.

One more thing Id check is the level boundaries. Apparently you can dash far enough to leave the intended area in some places 😭 A simple invisible boundary or camera limit would stop that. Id also test the wall jump a bit more because if it fails even once when the player expects it to work it can make the controls feel worse than they actually are.

Theme is 5/5 for me. Leaving home and crossing the ocean together is simple but fits really well and making the turtle part of the gameplay helps a lot.

Very nice game especially for only 18 hours. Mostly Id focus on clearer tutorials better enemy feedback and a little more consistency in the controls and visuals.

Thank you very much for all the interesting feedback! Will take note for future games and hopefully with a bit more time to make will feel better :)

An excellent platformer! I have to admit that the sound design is very relaxing and fits really well with the calm atmosphere the game is trying to convey. The obstacles along the way also add just the right amount of progressive difficulty, since they’re easy enough for the player to gradually get used to and master.

The art style is also very beautiful and charming. However, from my perspective, the background creates a bit of a contrast with the player sprite and the other objects. Elements like the crab and the turtle, for example, felt visually distinct enough from the clouds that they sometimes gave me the subtle impression that they didn’t quite belong to the same universe. That said, it was nothing that seriously broke my immersion.

One thing I think could further improve the experience is the way the dash is controlled. Since this is a platformer with a lot of constant movement, I think it would be ideal for the dash direction to be controlled based on the keys being used to move the player. While using the mouse allows for more freedom in terms of angle variation, having the dash direction tied to the movement keys would give the player much more control and precision. I believe that’s especially important in a platformer, particularly during the moments when we need to move back toward the turtle so we don’t lose sight of it.

Another small detail that bothered me a little was the way damage dealt to the seagull is communicated. I really liked the impact sound effect combined with its cry, but I wasn’t always sure whether the effect meant that I had actually dealt damage to it or if it was simply an attack that temporarily staggered it. I think something as simple as a health indicator, a hit flash, or even a small screen shake with some particles would be enough to give the player clearer feedback.

Overall, the game has enough mechanics to keep the gameplay varied over time, which is great and makes it really fun to play. Congratulations on the project, and best of luck in the jam!

WOAH, THIS CRAB AND TURTLE DUO IS ADORABLE! 🦀🐢🌊

I love how you turned “The Long Way Home” into an ocean-crossing adventure where Krab and Turtle leave their home behind and venture into the unknown together! 💙 The concept feels simple but charming, and the combination of platforming, dashing, wall jumping, and fighting enemies gives the journey its own personality. The crab's movement mechanics sound especially fun, and having to protect the turtle along the way adds another interesting layer to the adventure! 🎮✨

The level variety, animations, and creative gameplay mechanics really stand out from the feedback! 🌴⚔️ I especially love the idea of using the dash to fight back against those annoying seagulls, while the sharks make swimming feel dangerous instead of letting players take an easy shortcut. 😂🦈 It's great to see how the mechanics connect with the ocean theme rather than feeling like random platforming challenges.

One thing that could make the experience even better is introducing the controls and special moves a little more clearly at the beginning, so players can understand the mechanics without getting frustrated. A little balancing for the seagulls and some extra polish to the visual consistency and sound levels could also make this already promising adventure even stronger! 🌟

KRAB AND TURTLE, KEEP SAILING! 🚀💚 Making a game like this in just 18 hours with two developers is genuinely impressive. There's a lot of personality in this little adventure, and I'd love to see what other places these two characters could explore together. Wishing both of you the best of luck with the jam — may your journey home be full of surprises, but hopefully fewer sharks! 😂🌊🏆

This was a lot more fun than I initially thought it would be. Using the turtle as a base is clever and the dash/attack is a pretty cool mechanic.

There’s a solid variety of platform pieces and textures. And plenty of enemies.

Nice level of polish for 18 hours of development. Keep up the solid work!

Very high quality platformer!

Gameplay wise this game great! The platformer mechanics took a while for me to understand, but once I got the hang of it the game was really enjoyable! I really enjoyed the varied level obstacles, and I thought the shark gimmick in the final section was really well done. The main critique is simply just the fact the mechanics are not well introduced and could deter some people from playing the game, and causing them to quit early. If you fix that up the gameplay would be fantastic.

Visually the game pretty solid, with one major issue. Each individual aspect of the game looked great, but they looked a bit off when combined together. For example the crab stands out a lot from the turtle. If the art style of each aspect was more consistent then the game would look far better.

The audio was a bit of a mixed bag, as there was some very bad sound balancing with some of the sound effects, but the music was pretty good!

The usage of the theme was fairly good! I thought the story of the game was fairly simple but cute, and it used the theme very well!

Overall, there only a few issues with this game, but overall this game is still excellent!

really good platformer game, nice mechanic with the jump and the dash.

check a little the birds, i can damage them but still receive damage, maybe a little time of invulnerability if hit the enemy.

the swiming section scared me, that things appears really fast XD

really cool game nice done.

love the platformer ! mouvement feel good ! nice work !

This was really fun! :D It took me a bit to get used to the controls and movement, but once I got the hang of it I really enjoyed the platforming. The seagulls were quite annoying at first but once I realised I could fight back with my dash it became a lot more manageable.

I love the inclusion of sharks to prevent the player from just staying in the water the whole time, that's a really creative solution that worked out perfectly :D
Also a huge fan of the sprites and animation, the crab especially, the puppet style used to move their limbs separately works fantastically in this context! :D

Quite some unique mechanics which go well with each other like wall jump and dashing into enemies, felt fun to play around with it! Im honestly not a big fan of platforming so i had a little tough time with this, but it is well implemented.  I felt the jump was a bit awkward to execute and in some cases the wall jumping wasnt working as expected. But it could just be my skill issue! The music fit the gameplay and sound effects were good, but maybe some pitch variations for some repetitive actions would have added some dynamism to the sound. Overall good job!

I'll be honest- I finished at the shark level. After the platforming part and activating a button I destroyed a branch, but the seagull kept sinking the turtle :(

I liked the gameplay- it had multiple elements (charged jump, wall climb), but it didn't feel overwhelming. It took me a second to figure out that the dash worked in the direction of the mouse cursor, but after I did it was all good. The main idea behind the game was nice- keeping the turtle in sight was an extra thing to keep in mind.

The sound and graphics were ok. They built the chill atmosphere that fit the game.

It was cool to see a decent platformer in the jam! Good job!

Platform games are my favorite and this one has awesome mechanics. The seagulls make beating the levels pretty challenging, and those visuals... I love the art style

Really nice game! Looking through all the entries this was the game I was most excited to play purely because of how cool the crab looks but I had to get through the rating queue first. Art style is great and the platforming felt very unique and thematic to the whole crab thing. Overall really enjoyed it apart from when I got jump scared by a shark.

I liked the game, it's really chill, laid-back, and has a nice look to it. I realized I can go off the map by dashing to the right a few times, hahaha. The shark caught me off guard, hahaha. Good game.

A very cute game!  Nice platforming, although some of the platforms can be skipped or aren't necessary.  The seagulls can be very difficult at times too,  but overall a nice, simple game.  Good job!

Very cute, I enjoyed the narrative and the different mechanics of the crab. The idea is very interesting. Good job!

Really nice game! At first, I expected it to be a simple little platformer, but it turned out to be really interesting. I had some trouble with the seagulls, though. I’d probably tweak them a bit, since they felt a little too punishing. Other than that, it’s a really great game!
