simple but effective in a good way
Enjoyed it a lot; really loved that hard mode has a black-and-white movie filter.
liked how simple the gameplay was; my only complaint would be that sometimes, when you would swap sides, a plane's tail would clip me, but honestly, that's probably my fault.
I am making a NSFW gaming review podcast and wanted to cover the size jam games in a special episode. Would I have your permission to review this on that episode? (I would link back to your game for others to play along with any account you would want traffic directed to, to help you in future projects)
Thanks a bunch! :) I had to add in the black and white filter, it just fit perfectly with the vibe.
Yeah! Simplicity and ease of understanding were big points for me, and oops- yeah the nature of swapping sides just sometimes means you'll clip the plane if you're a bit too close. I adjusted the hitboxes a bit to account for it, but it's imperfect.
Oh yeah, sure thing! Long as you credit everyone involved and toss a link in there to my bluesky or Ko-fi/patreon! :) That's super cool, I'd love to listen to it!
Wonderful, I can definitely link to your Kofi, Patreon, and Bluesky. I'll write down all the info I need, if everyone is credited in the game directly, I'll have it written down if not, feel free to let me know who to credit alongside you for "Attack of the Fifty Foot Balloon Babe"
Thanks for being on the episode. It'll be free for everyone to watch, so I'll hopefully get lots of eyes on your work
All three folks( I'm Stuffie!) are included in both the description and the game itself :) And yeah, thanks for that! I could def use the support haha. I'd like to keep making cool sizey arcade games!
Sweet, works for me. I linked and mentioned all three of you. I also got your Bluesky, DeviantArt, and Kofi linked (even dropped you five bucks). Excited to share my experiences playing and get some eyes on your projects when the episode releases.
Thank you kindly!! Greatly appreciated :D
Pretty fun little game and cute art style ^^
Thanks a ton! :D
I love how simple and enjoyable this game is! It definitely brings back the fun of this format.
The size mechanics, as punny as they sound, could have been expanded upon. I feel like it was a missed opportunity to incorporate a bit of floating elements due to her nature as a Balloon Giantess. Instead of taking damage that loses a life count, it should also deflate or shrink the size state that you had before. It's the small details that make simple mechanics like this feel in-depth with the context that is happening.
That said, the game was surely fun. There is a level of challenge between taking a risk and staying safe. Though, you could play the safe option by ducking down the whole time, so if there were any restriction, say, on how long you can duck for, it could bring skill elements to the table.
The art direction is pretty clear and consistent throughout. I really love the character design and art style. I would love to see this direction move forward to another game like this.
The theme, I would say, does fall into the pulp, but I'm not sure about the Sci-Fi aspects. Though she is a living and talking Balloon Giantess Babe, so I guess that does count as being Sci-Fi enough to be alien-like, haha.
The audio, I would say, got a bit irritating to hear her voice lines over and over. The cuts and overlaps between them didn't help with that. I believe the audio should have gotten a bit more time in the oven, in terms of how you design and set them up in the game. Not to mention, there was a lack of sound effects that could have supported it, so I sadly ended up playing it on mute. No disrespect to the voice actress; I think she did a wonderful job with Balloon Babe's personality!
Overall, it's a solid polish game that has a lot of potential to see more size ideas with the Balloon Babe character and world!
Glad you enjoyed the game! Thanks for the feedback :)
The floating stuff does come into play at the end, and likely with more dev-time I might've been able to figure a way to include it earlier. And hey, having her shrink a bit when damaged does sound cool- I'll hafta consider that for a sequel or Expanded edition.
I'm glad the game was simply fun the whole time! And while there's no exact time restriction on ducking the whole time, neither will the player be able to collect balloons or see Bambi swell up- so that's how I decided to balance that out. I can't think of a game that has a timer on ducking, and it'd be a bit rude to uncrouch the player against their will haha.
Aw, I'm sorry to hear the sounds got annoying! Personally, I loved em to death, and I did my best with having each action play any of a variety of noises. Overlaps and cuts though, totally on me- I just don't know enough about how Construct handles sounds to figure a way around that. I did try!! Many of my solutions wound up hurting the game mechanics, so I stopped trying and let it be.
Thanks!! I'm really proud of the polish and Balloon Babe's whole personality and vibe.
