You've never made a card game before and you did it quite well. It's not an easy thing to do right, looking at the ones you mentioned or (worse) the old Baten Kaitos.

The music and the sound effects are well chosen. And I like pixel-art, so this is perfectly fine for me.

I found it difficult to understand the amount of fear/charm, until I realized that the layout is different in full screen. The cards overlap the front row, hiding their health bar (see screenshot). And I was never really sure where I should drop the card, I had to redo it multiple times (maybe because of the full-screen issue).

Good job !

Its supposed to to stuck to a 4:3 aspect ratio... >:( unity...

Thank you for playing though I really appreciate it! Sorry you had trouble with the layout.

I got little confused between charming and "boo!" :ing but seems great start for card game.

I'm still trying to get my head around card games and deck builders, but this seemed quite accessible, so kudos for that. Really liked the map layout, great colours, super music, and gentle gameplay. Previous deck builders I've played normally just wipe me out within the first 2 battles. Here's some playtest-style notes, though don't take these as bad in any way (probably bad on me for being a dip about this kind of game), for all I know that's supposed to be like that with this genre!

  • On the map view, better contrast for the hover effect. I couldn't see how to move initially and almost missed the hover
  • In the card view, I think it's an assumption that you know which way round the grid is laid out. Took a while to realise the bottom row is the front. Didn't understand what the colour bar along the bottom of the grid meant until the 2nd match that it's the affect range of the card
  • I have no idea how you attack someone with charm, is it asking them kindly to run away?? You're not the only deck builder that's done this, so guess it's a genre thing
  • Didn't realise at first that you're able to draw many cards in a single round, though I couldn't play them all, so I don't know what limits you playing them. And I've probably been dumb and not realised I could draw more cards. Again, this is probably a genre assumption
  • I thought the end game button was a label for the number underneath, maybe needs to be more button-like
  • Didn't really get the candy screen at all. Obviously it's some sort of collect thing, but shruggies beyond that

Thank you for playing my game and giving feedback, its all very fair and appreciated.

1. Yeah I agree I was worried that might be the case.

2. I wanted to include a grid on the cards which I think would help but I couldn't work out how to fit it in UI wise. Maybe like a toggle to see a grid on the cards? Idk.

3. The idea is that you are a kid trick or treating and the monsters are people trying to scare you so you can make them go away by scaring them or being so cute they feel bad. This is something I wanted to include in a hypothetical tutorial that got cut for time but I think I'll update the description to clarify this.

4. The thing that limits you is the energy of the card which is the number in the green circle. You can tell how much energy you have by your own green circle by your health bar. I mentioned it briefly in the How to Play section of the description but its a big staple of the genre so I didn't spend much time on explaining it which is probably a wrong assumption to make.

5. I straight up just forgot to apply the texture to that button lol.

6. Its supposed to be when you get to the door you try to get as much candy as possible by scaring or charming the person giving you candy. That screen was unfortunately the biggest thing that got trimmed down to upload this on time but I wanted to do so much more with it.

Thanks again for playing the game I really appreciate it!

Hey,
Enjoyed the game, especially the art and especially at the end.
The gameplay also allowed some fun strategies like repeatedly healing from an enemy using Vampirism.
I got 250 Candy.

Glad to hear it! I think one of the best parts of these games is breaking them.
