Hi!
The story, or rather, the way Maple is portrayed, really captivated me. I felt the environments had a genuine, unpretentious charm that added something special to the atmosphere, making the whole experience feel warm and welcoming.
I also really appreciated the tutorial! As for the level design, everything felt intuitive, with a very thoughtfully designed learning curve (something I'm definitely taking away as a lesson for my own game development).
I'm genuinely impressed that you managed to create several levels with this level of quality within such a short jam timeframe.
I learned so much from the 15 minutes I spent playing your game. Thanks for sharing it!
I won't lie, I hesitated a bit before downloading it because it's quite a hassle in my situation (I'm visiting a relative, and the PC I'm using isn't mine).
Would you consider releasing a browser version in the future?
Best!
Hi, thanks for playing! We tried to work it into a browser version (I was testing it in HTML5 anyways, another artifact of how broken Linux Gamemaker is) but we found we'd have to recompile the songs for them to work when formatted into .ogg for HTML and we didn't have enough time. We will probably bring bug fixes in the future before we start working on the full version, but we feel it isn't in the spirit of the jam to update it while ratings are still open. I'm glad you enjoyed it though!
Really beautiful art and pretty decent platforming an awesome game, thanks for the experience.
Hey team, I also submitted with a team!
I liked the visual design overall - everything from the player character, to the platforms, springs, spikes, and tree, all seemed unique or intriguing in some way. The spring jump was a cool concept that felt fun and I think was executed quite well! Though I found that the level design became a little frustrating somewhere around level 4 or 5, leading me to not complete the game (even though I wanted to - I love a challenge!). I'm not sure if the later levels have this, but it would have been cool if the season changing mechanic was integrated in levels earlier or even changed the level design. Regarding audio, I like how music parts were layered in as we reach harder levels - this is a simple but effective way to match the energy of the game's progression. All the SFX were not just appropriate, but also satisfying - SFX for dying and vine breaking might be worth trying out!
Congratulations on this submission, and special congratulations on submitting as a team with other people 😄 !
Hi Will
I could relate to your comment 100%! I really feel like you took the time to understand the game and truly take it all in. That's what makes game jams so special!
Best!
We did have sound effects for the vine breaking and dying planned we were unable to implement them because of problems with game maker on Linux.
I do love a good platformer! It would have been nice to have a bit more visual feedback when you hit an obstacle or die but aside from that, this was great
