Use of the limitation
I've interpreted the limitation: “staying warm” by making the player a being made entirely of fire, who must carefully manage their heat to survive. Also please do note that the player's jump height depends on their size (smaller = jumps higher)

Good pixel art and good concept for a full game

Developer

Thanks for checking out my game!

Really fun game and nice art, a bit confusing at first but enjoyable

Developer

Thankuuu! I had a lot of fun making this game

I really fun and cute game! I recommend you to use WASD keys for movement because that's what the players are used to. I also think you should do more levels for the future! :D

Developer

Thanks! I'll keep it in mind for the next jam!

I REALLY enjoyed your game!!
The music is super cute, and THE PIXEL ART... OH MY GOD, THE PIXEL ART!!! PLEASE TEACH ME YOUR WAYS XD

The gameplay was really fun too! I got a little scared when the rain started because I thought it was game over XD
But seriously, great concept, great game, and AMAZING WORK!!

Thank you so much!!!

A fun game with pleasing visuals. As for the gameplay: it’s a bit annoying having to start all over again after dying, and I also didn't figure out how to take shelter from the rain. Otherwise, it's a good game.
Developer (1 edit)

I didn't add checkpoints because the levels are really short and only the third level was hard (for me, I might have messed up the balance a bit).. and you can hide under the semi-solid platforms , like the player is doing in the game screenshot :(  I hope you'll try to play it again..

The game turned out to be much deeper than I thought; the less health you have, the higher you jump—that’s a clever mechanic. And thanks for explaining how to take shelter from the rain. Also, I reached the end of Level 1, but it sent me back to the beginning.

Developer (1 edit)

Just wait until you reach level 2..  😈

I didn't see where the yellow leaves were.
Developer

Just shoot the level end pillar.. It'll appear ( that's also in the description :) )

It looks like I'm just being stupid... I didn't read the description, but now everything makes sense. My apologies.
Developer

No need to apologise :)

This was an awesome use of the jam's limitation. There's a lot you have to plan and manage here and I love it! Even having the pools of water fill up from the rain was a super nice touch. Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much for the review!! Did you see the 5 achievements the game has? :)

Submitted(+1)

Hi!

The cover art really captures that autumn atmosphere! I loved the orange and blue contrast. I know it's easy to get lost in those little details, but here it worked beautifully.

The achievements were a really fun addition, and the UI felt incredibly polished. Honestly, I think it might be the most polished UI I've seen in this entire jam! I even got the impression that you're a very organized person. By the way, I couldn't tell which engine you used from the loading screen. Godot? Unity?

That first leaf on the hill had me trying for several minutes! I also ran into a small issue when switching to fullscreen mode. It didn't work for me, so that's something worth checking for a future 2.0 version.

Discovering that the smaller you get, the higher you can jump was quite a surprise! It took me a while to figure that out, but I eventually managed to overcome the challenges.

Overall, there are some really interesting ideas here, and I love how the game creates this sort of silent conversation with the player, letting you discover its mechanics on your own.

That said, would you consider adding a short in-game tutorial next time?

Thanks for sharing your game!

Best!

Developer

Thanks! I used GameMaker to make this game.. and since I don't have much experience with itch.io , I didn't know the details of the fullscreen mode.. and yeah, I think an in-game tutorial is the main thing that's missing :( I'll make a short one in the next game I make.

Super cute game! I really like the concept of staying warm as yourself. I was going to agree with other commenters about certain gameplay aspects, like not being able to reach the leaves, until I realized how I jumped super high before dying to rain!! I really love that aspect! I saw you stated you wanted to have a type of tutorial, and i think that would be great. I hadn't gotten much further than the first round.

Developer

Sorryy :( I ran out of time before adding the tutorial, so I added the mechanics in the description of the game.. I hope you'll give it another try though, the third level was my favourite to make.

I enjoyed the platforming a lot on this game! I was initially confused how to get the first collectible, but finally got it when I realised you have to become smaller to jump higher. Amazing graphics too!!!!

Developer

Thanks for taking the time to play through my game! Did you manage to collect all the collectibles? (There's 16)

Submitted

Sadly not! I missed 1 :(

Developer

Awww :(

Submitted(+1)

I shall replay soon and try to get all :)

The game has very interesting mechanics, and the platforming is very responsive. thanks for the game!

Thanks for playing!!!!

Overall, I really enjoyed the game! There are a few things I'd like to highlight:

  • The less fuel you have, the higher you can jump. I really like this mechanic because it encourages players to balance their resources, and keeping your fuel at maximum isn't always the best option. However, the game doesn't explain this mechanic. When I first couldn't reach a leaf that seemed too high, I initially thought the level design hadn't been thought through properly.
  • The background darkening before the rain starts is a really nice little detail. It helps set the mood and signals that something is about to happen.
  • I'd consider adding alternative ways for players to reduce their fuel intentionally. Even though the game is short, I found it a little frustrating to stand still and wait for the rain just to be able to jump higher. Giving players more control over this mechanic could make the gameplay feel more engaging.

For a three-day game jam, I think this is a pretty good game! My main suggestions would be to improve the tutorial so players can understand the mechanics more easily and give them a little more control over the gameplay.

I hope to see more of your projects in the future! =D

Yes, I wanted to make a tutorial but didn't have enough time, so i tried to add it in the description of the game page.. But the player can reduce fuel intentionally using water droplets (introduced in the 2nd level) and using the fireball attack. i'll try to add tutorials in later jams. Thanks for the feedback!

First off, great job on your first game jam! Short jams like this are quite difficult as you really have to cut back on scope and get everything done quickly. There were a lot of little details that I did like about the game, such as the rain and extra jump mechanics. One issue I had was that the music was a little too repetitive and basic. If your looking for good free music to use I highly recommend Alkakrab, Kevin McLaughlin, or xDeviruchi.  Overall, great job :)

Developer

Thanks for playing through my game and thanks for the suggestions regarding the audio😁 I'll improve on that aspect in later jams

I love the rain mechanics, the water rising is a great little touch!

Really nice that you found a reason to be cold.
Your interpretation is actually different from others I have seen.

Developer

Thanks for the good words and for playing through my game😁

Quite enjoyable. Put a smile on my face the moment I knew I can jump higher when the flame is smaller.

Developer

Thanks for playing though My game! 😁 I thought about making the jump vary very early on in development, so it's nice to hear that everyone had fun playing around with it 🙂‍↕️

Submitted(+1)

A few surprising things I loved, especially the rain making the water level rise, great work!

Developer

Thank you very much for playing through my game and thanks for the compliments

Submitted(+1)

That was a lot of fun! I like the mechanic of being able to use your health/flame to attack, while having to keep it burning. Making the jumps higher when you are smaller is also a brilliant choice. It looks like you had as much fun playing around with particle effects this jam, as I did in my game. Love the way your rain is stopped by the platforms, so the player can hide under them. Colour palette choice and parallax layers also look great!

Took me a few tries to figure out i had to attack the final pillar to proceed to next level. Just running into it reset the level. Completed the game and enjoyed it very much.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so much for the review and for playing through my game☺️ I was playing around with particles perviously, so I thought I should take the chance and use it extensively here
