running blocks into them, or if they land, landing a block on them.. results in a Splat SFX, and a Splat Sprite appearing where they were, which fades away,.. it also gains points which pops up (if you splat them in the air)
Chances are you were splatting away all along :P.
Let me know if there's some bugs though, if those things are not showing up etc. and what browser you're on.
