Issue with audio not playing in games

Hi there. I've recently downloaded some games from itch.io, and among some of them I have noticed that all in-game audio does not seem to play, even though it exists. To no avail, I have relaunched the games, restarted my computer, reinstalled the games, attempted to adjust the in-game volume settings (which were apparently already unmuted and at maximum settings), and have run a variety of audio troubleshooters. My computer is also fully up to date.

All other audio functions for my computer; it is only these games that do not play any sound through any output device. They also use the Ren'py engine (which I suspect is part of the problem, as another game with a different engine I've downloaded from here successfully plays sound).

If anyone has any ideas or solutions, please let me know.

have you found a solution to this? im having the same issue even after fixing windows defaults 😓

Which games are affected (public links would help), what version of Windows are you on, and are you launching them through the itch app or directly from a download?

for some games it can be fixed by editing your headphone properties. in their output settings/format and choose 24-bit, 48000 Hz or even 16-bit, 44100 Hz
