Had a rough time at first but once I skimmed through the video things clicked for me! I think I could see myself spending WAY too much time on this lol. Very ambitious project, imagining the amount of math that went into this hurts me, so kudos. I'll probably come back after voting to give this another shot!

truly so much math to balance this XD

took me a bit to get what was happening. when I finally did though it was very cool! ambitious and creative

Made it through the hump and figured out how everything worked together. I'm not too good at these kinds of games so even then I had some trouble getting far. But I think the bones are there to make something that could suck a player in, especially with the upgrade tree.

This was a very cool concept and an amibitious idea to take on for a jam. I thought I was winning until I wasn’t, but I was playing on full speed.

Blending real time and strategy is always tricky to balance right, I found myself wanting an easier tutorial level to figure things out and develop more of a strategy than just buy everything asap, but I had a fun time while I was in there.

Thanks for playing. Balance was hard and required some fancy math.

Control explanation would've been better and I think some more upgrade options might have made it easier to play more passively. Better tutorial resonates so thank you for your feedback.

The upgrade screen was super satisfying to unlock pretty quickly, the art is clean and the music was popping! but I am not sure that I understood what was happening throughout the game. Eventually, I was defeated, but I could never tell that (if?) I was being attacked, or what any of my clicking between attack/mine/lock was doing, in effect. I was still amused by watching the blue number go up for a while though, so I think with a bit more tutorial/UX finessing you could have a solid loop!

Developer

Yeah the resounding feed back is the controls were not intuitive. We would have benefitted from a tutorial screen stepper ui to explain where to look and the controls. We added a tutorial video around 11 pm tuesday due to this feed back. Check the description below the main game for this. It's a bit unfocused but gives you the pieces to play. can definitely skip the first 30 seconds if you're crunched on time.

Glad you liked blue number go up. number get big is good.

I think there's a lot of systems and content built into this in a short time, and I think the area you could use the most polish in is just making the UI and controls a little more intuitive. I think I didn't immediately grok certain controls like "lock"ing the individual ship attacks/modes, and it was often hard to select an individual ship if it was right on top of a city. I'm also not a big RTS player so I'm maybe not the best playtester but I think once you get a hang of the interface it feels pretty balanced and fun, and has that enjoyable "make the number bigger" feeling. Overall I really like it!

Not a genre I'm normally drawn to, but still a lot to admire and enjoy. With games like these, I often wonder how much it might help players get used to things when on a smaller scale- starting on a single continent, with limited retaliation from cities, just so players can warm up to the strategies necessary to win. When you have a greater sense of the value of given upgrades, it's a lot easier to make a confident, informed choice with your gameplay, and I think that feeling drives a lot of player investment and enjoyment.

This was a lot of fun once I understood what was going on, but it definitely took a while to understand what was going on! And to be honest, even after beating the game I'm still not clear on a few things, like how or when the mothership takes damage. The tutorial video can help explain things, but 7 minutes is a *long* time to listen to an explanation for a game that might only take 5-7 minutes to play through. I think at that point most people (myself included) are more liable to just stumble their way through the game themselves.

There's a lot of information that would be really useful to have on the UI that's missing. It's unclear, for example, why and how many times a city will rebuild. I know it's 3 from the video, but that doesn't actually help all that much in the middle of the game when I'm attacking multiple cities at once - I'm probably not counting every time a particular city has been destroyed. It would also be useful to have some more information always onscreen. I always want to know how many resources I have, so it would nice for that to be on screen at all times, instead of just when I click the mothership, which I don't often have a reason to do otherwise. There's already an icon attached to each city for if they're hostile to my ships, but for the vast majority of the game, it's just a given that they're hostile, and it's clear when they become hostile visually because they're shooting back. I'd much rather see a lives counter for them, or have a visual indicator for whether they're marked for mining vs attacking for my own ships instead of needing to click into them for that information. There's other UI stuff that might be useful too, like health bars for my ships, ammo indicators for ships, etc

Without all that info it can make it harder to figure out how the game works - it's not overly-complicated at the end of the day, but there's often not enough information put in front of the player to make things clear from the outset. That said, all of that is not really difficult to fix, either - it's just a matter of putting the right information in front of the player for that clarity, and I think reducing that friction is all it needs

Super fun! Took me a bit to figure out the controls (someone had to tell me how to do the mining and attacking) but aside from that, really fun little game! reminds me of Pandemic!

Great work here, I struggled and wasn't able to win the first time but got through it on the second. I love the sense of building/progression throughout the game, and how the settlements get more aggressive over time! I wish there was maybe more clarity with the targeting system, or an indicator if the ships will target certain cities.

Developer

Good Note. I added an instructional video in the description to help players with the controls.

Thanks for playing.

This one was really satisfying. At first I was pretty confused, but I slowly got the gist of it. I was still a little unsure of certain things - like I didn't know how to build my own UFOs if I set auto-build to off. I also didn't really understand why human cities kept re-building. Do they always rebuild a certain number of times? Is it random? That wasn't super clear right off the bat. At first, it made me think I hadn't successfully destroyed the city and needed to do something different. It was on my second play through that I realized that I guess they just eventually stop getting rebuilt.

The UI was also kind of confusing - I could click cities to see the "mine" and "attack" option - but first thing is, I didn't understand if I was actually clicking/selecting the human city, or the UFO that was on it. The second was that if I set it to either of those I didn't understand which UFO was going to be doing the action. I don't know, like I said it was confusing. It also took me a while to figure out what was happening with the ships. When I first started getting attacked, I thought my ships were the ones attacking.  I think just more clarity on what's going on would be super helpful.

Eventually I did manage to win - I mostly understood it by instead just clicking the mothership and selecting all my UFOs to either attack or mine when they spawn (at least, I think that's what was happening?).  Getting stronger and buying things in the shop felt very addicting, and I really liked the exponentially increasing aspect to it. Cool game!

Thanks for playing!

Yeah several of the UI elements were confusing to users and could have used a tutorial screen or walkthrough. We have added a video to help users understand the gameplay elements.

Thanks for the feedback. :)
