Even though it was unfinished, well done! Got a lot of work done in a short amount of time, converting a board game into video game format sounds like it would take a lot of effort. Listening to the background music while I played in another tab made the experience nicer!

Even with the step-by-step instructions, it was a bit unclear how to achieve the goals. As others have said, having instructions inside the game, and presented incrementally would be a great help. With a bit of trial and error I did get a rocket to the moon at least!

Thanks for playing! Yes, built-in tutorial would be really helpful. I also should have explained more clearly what each technology does, and included more details in the maneuver dialog, like the thrust of each component, the consequences of using it, clearer formulas for the calculations, and state of multi-turn maneuvers. I have plan to add them but finally ran out of time to implement...

The text-based tutorial on your page was crucial, but I wish it had been inside the game page.

The strategy was intriguing. I initially struggled to perceive success/failure states, (a little audio marker could bring that to life); but I liked that there were passive developments between turns.

The uncertainty of exploration felt intentional. Good to see your work again after HAGJ11.

Developer

Thanks for playing! :) The game should be deterministic right now, since the actual elements of uncertainty haven't been added yet. But I can see that the poor guidance has introduced unnecessary obstacles and uncertainty for players. I'll pay more attention to that in the future!

Interesting concept! I played a few turns, rebuilt the spacecraft from the tutorial and tried to go into Mars orbit, but I didn’t make it for some reason. Then I tried putting Gagarin in orbit and made it! Unfortunately, he did not make it back. moment of silence So I made another Gagarin, strapped him to a Saturn and two Atlas rockets (because this time I wanted him to come back), but I hadn’t researched landing, so he died again. A third Gagarin had to be used, and he made it back! I had fun experimenting and I see the vision. Describing the elements on the game map (I mean by writing it ON the map) would help a lot already.

Thanks for playing :), yes currently landing or re-entry info are displayed on right panel only, it's better to display it on map and make some warning confirm dialog before player make those action.

Very ambitious to attempt a boardgame implementation in just over a week.
What you have done is nice but as I have not heard of this particular boardgame, I would have been lost without your instructions. I had to open a second browser tab so that I could read them as I played along.
I did the first 2 turns but accidentally moved my rocket to sub-orbital flight instead of orbit. It used up the Juno rocket with that move so it looks like it was stuck there .
I build another rocket and got it into orbit this time - and that got stuck too once the Saturn rocket was gone.

But now I start to see how things work - would be  cool to play a finished and polished version.

Thanks for playing the game :). I forgot to make spacecraft on Suborbital Flight automatically return to Earth (I usually launch directly into Earth Orbit when testing. Launching into Suborbital Flight can save some thrust in certain situations, but it's a bit tedious).

The four rocket types, including the Saturn Rocket, are one-shot rockets, so it's expected that they're consumed after use. Only the Ion Thruster can be used multiple times. Roughly 1 Saturn Rocket can carry 5 mass components onto earth orbit, then other carried light rocket (like Juno in tutorial) and Ion thruster continue carry probe & astronaut to other planet. Players usually need several turns to build a large spacecraft and launch it into orbit, or they can launch Saturn Rockets over multiple turns to accumulate components in Earth Orbit before proceeding with the next step of their mission.

I also feel that the game lacks too much guidance :( The rulebook for Leaving Earth might be helpful, though some rules are different: https://soundingrocket.com/le/Leaving%20Earth%20-%20rules%20v4n.pdf Maybe I would improve guidance and polish it more after rating.
