Hi! Besides itch, we also release the game in early access on services like Patreon | Subscribestar | Boosty. That early access build often has bugs (unfortunately, we don’t always manage to catch them all). A week after each patch goes out in early access, we release the itch version with all the fixes we find in the meantime. 0.8.6.1 will be out tomorrow.
I just checked the build again: the codebase and the delivery are the same between the demo and the full version. Let’s try to rule out a few things, maybe something will help.
- Is there a file called
GameAssembly.dllin the game folder? Antivirus software can sometimes delete it, because I don’t have an official certificate that antiviruses like for signing my code, and that leads to an error. - Are there any characters other than Latin letters in the path to the game folder? Try naming the folder itself simply Magic Academy, and make sure the entire path contains ONLY Latin letters.
- Are you trying to run the game from an archive? The .zip file you download is an archive. You need to extract it first by right-clicking the file itself, and then run the game from the resulting folder.
- The path to the launch file may be too long, and you end up with something like
Downloads\Magic-Academy-0.8.6.1-win\Magic-Academy-0.8.6.1-win\Magic Academy_Data\il2cpp_data\Metadata\global-metadata.dat. Try placing the game folder closer to the root of the drive, for example c:\HiddenGames\MagicAcademy
Let me know once you’ve tried everything, and I’ll do my best to help.
