Description
Explanation of our fictional game
🎂 Vibrant, energetic, and fun Original Sound Track for a chaotic cooking minigame!
World of Cakes is a fictional game. We used it as a creative platform to explore what a mini game from such a game might sound like.

Musical context and creative decisions
🍲Pots, 🥘 Pans, and 🏹Precision
As soon as we read the brief we knew we wanted to record some foley and get pots, pans, and kitchen sounds in general into the mix.

We agreed starting with the clicking of a pilot light would be a good way to begin. The pots being so chaotic would be great for a rhythm/drum track as they are largely transient sounds. This would be complimented by a more chill and plodding bassline.

A jug being made to whistle by blowing over the open top was used as a digital instrument and a synth bass was added to begin. Then The clanging pots and pans as well as the violin, then the harmonica, and after some final touches, voila. Our song is ready to plate.

We collaborated remotely using Reaper DAW. We passed full zipped versions of the project back and forth via google drive.

Feedback
It's set up pretty well, could use more guidance on submission process and required deliverables. I didn't realize there would be a place to add the description part in the submission itself but everything was clearly listed on the initial jam page so it's already pretty good!

As a violin player myself, I might be biased, but daym that was some good playing! The violin and the harmonica is such a good combo!

Was that the sound of blowing bubbles? It was such a creative way to introduce complexity and texture on top of the kitchen percussion!

I am a bit confused with the ending of the loop, there is a short section of a key change and a time signature that didn't really go anywhere before it blows up and loops back to the beginning. Was that a time constraint thing? I hope that section gets expanded further!

That violin is all Claire; I agree that was some daym good playing!  Glad the combo is working for you!  I like it too but was a tad worried they compete for similar pitch ranges at times.  Hence the harmonica remaining somewhat sparse.

The blowing bubbles was also all Claire!  Kitchen percussion foley for the win!

When composing that end of the loop the rising key changes were a reference to the prompt of key change and also the feeling of a hectic minigame wrapping up.  So for a minigame I would actually have ended it at the end of that frantic upwards direction.

But yes with time constraints that little 3/4 coda and new feeling key did not get fully explored.  Good ear picking up on that btw!  Interestingly enough it was the first bassline I recorded but didn't find a place for it until the end.  So it makes sense it feels a bit out of place I suppose!

Thanks so much for the kind words and valuable feedback, really appreciate it!!

Thank you so much!  Really appreciate it.  Loved that the prompt encouraged harmonica I had a good time breaking that out.  I'm no pro but we had such a good time!
