Wow I really liked this one. The art is very nice and I like running around looking for the symbols on the faucets. I think the map is the perfect size so the player is unlikely to get very lost. I was a little confused about what to do at first, but the symbols on the pews gave me at least something to go on. I don't think you need to make it obvious what the player should be doing, maybe just add a little hint at the start. I think sound cues would also be nice as someone else suggested - the player would recognize early that interacting with the faucet is actually doing something elsewhere.

To be honest though I did essentially get stuck after some time. I made all the symbols on the pews glow, and then tried to figure out what to do next but couldn't find anything. So then I made all the symbols dim and still couldn't find any next step. Maybe that's all there is? The only thing left were the 2 faucets directly outside the church which seemed to have the symbols matching the angels, but I tried turning those on and off and the angel symbols stayed dim/angels didn't do anything to my knowledge? Not quite sure but I did enjoy the gameplay.

The game was actually pretty scary to me until I realized the monster is easy to avoid, and then it just becomes a sort of area denial, which I think is fine. My only big critique is that the chirping noise in the background is grating and I'm not sure what exactly it's supposed to be.

The grainy pixel art style looks really cool in 3D, and the atmosphere is great! The dog turning into the monster was a nice creepy moment too.

The clicking sound got a bit much for me after a while. A volume slider or audio settings would be an easy fix, so players can turn it down themselves. Like others said, the faucets and church part could be a bit clearer, but I made it through!

Really like the vibe you created!

Overall the same as the others. Very cool but I did get lost too.

Developer

That’s a shame… Thanks for playing tho!

Very good game, Absolute cinema! The only thing that I would like to see better are the instructions in the game, because I didn't know what to do after the dog be a bad boy. Keep a good work.

Developer

Thank you so much! I agree, you’re not the first to complain that the goal is too vague.

Basically you can enter the church, and you’ll notice some seats have glowing carvings on them.

Overall enjoyed the game! I do think players need some more instruction and feedback though. Maybe a small introduction / description about the goal of the game as well as a sound cue when the player completes a task. Once I turned all of the taps I didnt realize the doors were interactable for a few minutes haha. Great job though!

Developer

Thank you so much for the feedback and for playing! Sound cue is an excelent idea actually.

love the visuals but didn't really understand what i was supposed to be doing. I went through the church and then turned off all the bloody taps i could find and nothing happened. maybe add a description on the game page that instructs the player what the goal is. Loved walking the dog tho, don't think i've ever done that in a game before

Developer

Thank you so much for the feedback and for playing! Yeah I tried to make the puzzle not so obvious, to add to the mistery, but there’s a fine line between “misterious” and “confusing”, I guess I didn’t callibrate the gameplay enough.

If you think of trying again, here’s a hint: the church seats have a glowing symbol on them. Some are glowing and some are not.

Okok, I'll give it another try when im off work!

the clicking audio made my head hurt to the point i had to mute the game to continue

Developer

Well then, how far did you go? Did you finish the game? That’s an awful review, specially considering it’s a begginers game jam…

i'm sorry, i honestly think i'm missing something since i've played about 10 minutes and it's just been walking around with the dog. you mention there is supposed to be a monster but i have not encountered one in my playtime, so i guess i have not finished the game

Developer

No problem, thanks for comming back with more feedback! A shame you played for so long and didn’t get further into the horror, that’s on me for not making it clearer that you can enter the church in the woods and some creepy stuff happens later. Anyways, thank you so much for giving it a go!

This is a very simple game, made with preexisting free assets I found online, everything free, I couldn’t give credits to sfx and music because I forgot where I found it (should’ve saved the URL) but I’m still looking for it to properly credit all assets.

I’m not sure if I’m a beginner since I develop games for a couple of years now, but always as a hobbyist and never commercially, I was never formally employed by any game studio, and I still consider myself very much a beginer, specially compared to anyone else in virtually every game jam I’ve ever joined. But if I do not qualify as such, please let me know and I’ll remove my submission.

The “out of sight” implementation is the fact that the monster only runs towards you if you stay in sight.
