I am making a cozy driving game where you can unlock cars when you complete an area. I'm unsure about Jungle one. Any ideas?

As said, I'm working on Pastel Drive - a cozy procedural endless drive game where if you complete areas taking pictures and doing deliveries for the locals, you unlock a special car for that area.

All others are almost-common cars, I'm not totally convinced about Forest (left) and Jungle (right)

What do you think?

I played for like 10 minutes. The art is beautiful. The music is so nice. Overall, it creates a very relaxing, inviting atmosphere.  Well done, my friend.

But the gameplay itself is boring. Driving on the highway is boring in real life. So how about in a game? There is not much to do. Nobody gave me any quests. And honestly, unlocking new cars isn't an incentive for me to keep playing!

And again, to confirm. The art is beautiful; the game did stand out. So what I'm missing is an addictive game loop.

Thank you very much for your feedback SarDira and thank for playing that long!

The game is still in development and yes, the version here on itch is also to measure the visuals (which you confirmed, and I'm super happy about that) and have feedback on the game loop.

I'm working on that specific thing right now and I'm trying to find something interesting to add.

I'm reworking the whole loop, adding deliveries both same-biome and cross biome. To do that, I had to review the entire system of rewards.

What would you love to see that makes you feel more engaged in such relaxing games?

Glad I was of help. And honestly, I don't know! But there are several road-trip games; maybe they will give you inspiration!

I'm struggling with my own game. Haha. If you have some spare time, I'd appreciate it if you could take a look at my little game and give me your honest, brutal feedback! Thanks in advance!

Hey dude, apologies for my late reply!

I did play with your game, here what I have found a little weird:
- a lot of indications on screen where I have to go and what I have to do all at once. I struggled following inscruction but the game is simple so I figured it out
- there is a lot of passivity: other than moving on a bacteria I don't have to do much: it might be interesting adding some sort of evolution. Maybe the macrophage can level up, become faster at eating, eating more than one bacteria at once or having additional actions (for example with space bar it expands and clears briefly a bigger area)

Animations are a little clunky while the macrophage is smooth.

I would dig a little more on the swarm effect of the bacteria: more bacteria, more macrophages coordinates together with you to help with an increasing number of bacteria.

It wasn't clear why I had the "hand" indicator and couldn't use it.

All in all I think I've reached the end by just moving around: the challenge was very low (this isn't bad unless you intended to set the bar high).

If you want to add more storyline I would move from the human-scenario to an alien macrophage in an alien body and this macrophage can evolve over time and it moves accordingly to its evolution (slower but bigger, smaller but faster)

Do you remember Spore? Well, something like that but less complicated.

Hope this helps!

Thank you my friend for the detailed review. Especially for pointing out the confusing HANDS! I'm going back to the drawing board.

Just a quick question: Roughly when did you play? I updated the demo recently, so I want to attach your feedback to the right version. Cheers!

It was right before posting the reply so I guess a pretty new version

I partially agree with the review above. The gameplay can get boring; you should add some dynamism - that is, have things happen in the game at random moments. This would add at least a bit of interest, though it might not entirely eliminate the boredom, depending on how you implement it. Otherwise, yes - the music and the design are excellent!

Hey, thank you Greg for your feedback.

I'm working on a major update for the game loop this weekend.

If you want to see a teaser of what's about to get released, you can visit www.pasteldrive.com or my itch page.
