Very nice game, great mechanics and a lot of fun to play!

Developer

Thanks! :)

I like the main mechanic, it seems neat. I also like how you animated the characters and movement.

The platforming needs some work, as others mentioned the wall jump doesn't feel too good. I'd also suggest adding variable jump length by holding the jump button you jump higher. You can also add a coyote timer, whenever the player leaves a ledge, start a small timer (0.2s or so). If the player hits jump before that timer is 0, perform the jump even if they aren't grounded anymore.

Congrats on submitting!

Developer

Hi arya-s. Thanks for your constructive feedback, I appreciate it a lot!

The game actually has a  0.2 seconds coyote timer for easier jump, it has a variable jump height too, and also a jump case in wich if you pressed the jump button sooner before hitting the ground it will still perform the jump measured by a 0.2 seconds soonjump timer.

In the game there's happening also something similar with the wall jump. If you press the walljump button sooner before hitting the wall it will still perform the walljump measured by a 0.1 seconds soonwalljump timer.  Overall, the platforming is really deeply developed in terms of acceleration, deaceleration, friction, timers and player's benefit. What I'm planning to do after the jam finishes is just  tweaking the value for the walljump timer to make it less automatic and less uncontrollable.

Thanks again for your feedback and for checking out my game!

Hm, I didn't quite notice those things when I played. You might need some physic values tweaking. If you need some help I suggest looking at my player script https://github.com/arya-s/crabbed/blob/main/Player.gd

I use the same values that Celeste does.

Cool idea, i think the wall jump execution need some polish but wall jump are hard to pull off, you want to take into consideration what the player is imputing at the moment of the wall jump and what that means for the controller. For example if im aiming at the wall and I wall jump it usually means the player wants to climb however if you don't want them to be able to climb with the jump you can maintain height with the jump. Otherwise really clever idea Congrats!

Developer

That was a really useful feedback for the wall jump, it puts better in perspective the cases I should take in count for the code. Thank you for your insightful review and for checking out my game!

The concept of this game is interesting! The artwork of this game is pretty good, I think. I especially like the visual effects of ghost shadow in yang mode. Nice work! One thing I have to point out is that the control is pretty hard to master, especially the wall jump. Anyway, this is a really fantastic work for 48 hours!

Thanks for your feedback! :D

I like the idea, it's really interesting, though I had some trouble mastering the controls. With more polished platforming the game would be just awesome. Anyway, still very very good! Congratulations on that!

Great concept and beautiful art. Unfortunately, Yang's wall jump feels so uncontrollable that after 10 minutes of doing the first section you need it, and figuring out there was more like it, I just couldn't finish it.

Developer

Thanks for checking out my game and for your feedback! I'm currently working on the wall jump :D

I loved this so much. Mechanic is so original and you feel good when you play  it . Game needs some fix tho. Great job!!

Really interesting idea,  hard as hell tho. Not having checkpoints and having to start from the begening is brutal.

But regardless, you managed to create and interesting concept. I just wish you could expand more on it, like have both ying and yang be playable, just interchange between them and have them complete a puzzle.

The movement in yang's side is really fun, going full speed around is just plain fun. Having to jump with C is not, and clearly walljumping is also a big thing here. But hey, I know from experience wall jumping can be hard to achieve, especially since you only got 48 hours to develop.  (If you want an example, play my game "What a Masterpiece", and see for yourself how awful mine is lmao)

I just expect a v2 with sound and a better wall jump. I would play the entire thing, start to finish, no matter how long it is.

Overall, it think you did really good. 3.5/5. Would totally play a full version of this with a nice little story.

PS. The art and effects are cool as heck, they are pleasing to look at, fell powerful on both sides, and are well animated. Just wished the bridges followed with the ground,

PPS. The black and white platforms were a wack, they didnt follow the rules all the time. For example: the white guy cannot go thru the black platforms, but the black guy can and viceversa. Why can the black guy stand on a white platform? Wouldnt he fall thru?.

Its just a small detail, but it kinda bothered me a little bit, still it doesnt take anything from the experience.

Thank you so much for your insightful review!, I appreciate a lot your feedback and I will take it in consideration for tweaking the mechanics and for the further development of the game.

As you said, in fact the black and white platforms had the colors wrong, I will soon fix this after the game jam finishes with a proper art (not the rectangles).

The first thing I'll be tweaking is the wall jump, it was my first time programming it so it has a lot to improve.

Thanks again for your useful feedback! I'm glad you found the concept interesting.

Cool game. I like the ghost mode in yang mode. I only wish that the yin mode could do more.

Good game, awful controls (the wall jump is just terrible, I was able to pass those sections only because I got stuck in the walls )

Developer

Thanks for your feedback. I'll take it in consideration to tweak some values of the wall jump.

ah! The yang character feels so great to speed around as. It's a little messy control wise at first since they are so fast but once you get it down it truly feels great. There's tons of little things with the movement that I felt myself getting better at and wanting to get better at. There's even little tricks that are fun and most likely not intended but using the momentum from yang to fling the monk when you transform back.

The the movement of the camera in the world feels great too. The parallax looks quite nice and the zooming in and out is just pleasant to see.

The one rough spot (but not even much of a bad spot!) was that the yin character has just so much less moments of giving the player fun things to do. They have their one mechanic and they stick to it.  I understand why it would be difficult though trying to make an opposite to yang.

Either way though I had a pleasant time going through this. :>

Developer

Thank you so much for your insightful feedback! I'm glad you liked the mechanics of the game overall. :D

This game plays as well as it looks! I think my favorite design choice is the decision to leave the yin-yang orb thing to stay at one spot so you have to go back and get it before progressing. It adds a new layer of complexity that wouldn't be there if you could just change characters at will.

This very intersting.

This game is very interesting because it tries to unify life criteria. it is easy to play and the characters are well designed. Congratulations!

Thank you. :D

Excellent. Got stuck at the end in a part where I got an orb with yang and couldn't go back to merge again due to a wall. Had a good time. Great character design.
