AssetHoard is a local-first desktop asset manager for indie game devs and artists. Point it at your asset folders and it builds one searchable library of sprites, 3D models, audio, fonts and engine files, all stored on your own machine. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and it's free during the open beta.

AssetHoard watched folder setup

What it handles

  • 80+ file types across 2D, 3D, audio and more
  • Godot, Unity, Unreal and GameMaker projects and packages, previewed without opening the editor
  • First-class Aseprite and Krita support, plus sprite sheet slicing and animation export
  • Full 3D mesh and animation previews
  • Natural language search across your whole library

New in 0.2.4: watched folders that track changes

  • Renames and moves keep tags, categories, bundles and project links, even ones made while AssetHoard was closed.
  • Unplugged drives and network shares pause instead of going missing.
  • 3D model thumbnails generate around 20x faster on import, and most image thumbnails are now made after import.
  • Re-importing a changed file updates the existing asset instead of creating a duplicate.

Download it on itch: https://assethoard.itch.io/assethoard
Linux users can install from the DEB, RPM or AUR repos instead, which keeps you on the latest build: https://assethoard.com/downloads

I'll post each new release in this thread.

Nice one! Excited to see the new SFX.

Pacman install

# One-time: import the release signing key so makepkg can verify the signature

curl -fsSL https://releases.assethoard.com/apt/assethoard-archive-keyring.gpg | gpg --import

# Install via any AUR helper

yay -S asset-hoard-bin

# or:

paru -S asset-hoard-bin

# Manual (no helper):

git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/asset-hoard-bin.git

cd asset-hoard-bin && makepkg -si

We did have one, about a year ago, but we had a few issues with the build itself.

Permissions were a pain, and sound was an issue! We deploy to most REPOS (yum, apt, aur)

https://assethoard.com/downloads has pacman instructions if that's easier than copying the above.

I release every 2 weeks, so it's the fastest way to keep things updated.

These are great, thanks for sharing!

These are pretty cool!

:) Thanks for supporting!

Thanks Witty!
It makes all those late night bug hunting sessions worth when i read these sorts of comments.

And a huge thanks for all the feedback you've given to me to help shape the product! You're a legend.

AssetHoard

AssetHoard is a desktop asset manager for game developers. Point it at the folders, zips and engine packages scattered across your drives and it builds one searchable, previewable library. Everything stays on your machine: no cloud account, no subscription.

You didn't become a game dev to be a file archaeologist.

AssetHoard library view

It understands game files

  • 80+ file types across 2D, 3D and more
  • Godot (.tres), Unity (.unitypackage), Unreal (.uasset) and GameMaker packages
  • First-class Aseprite and Krita support
  • Full 3D mesh and animation previews
  • Look inside zips without extracting them

3D model previews

And does something useful with them

  • Semantic search that runs locally, so you can find assets by what they look like, not just what they're called
  • Automatic PBR material grouping and ORM texture conversion
  • Picks out pixel art for you
  • Drag assets straight from your library into your project

Free during open beta

AssetHoard is free to download while it's in open beta (v0.2.3, Windows, macOS on Apple Silicon and Linux). It will move to a paid licence after beta. It's built by a solo dev and updates ship often, so bug reports and feature requests are very welcome on Discord.

This is really cool!

Thanks heaps, that's great to hear. Sound design is exactly where folders full of "hit_03_final.wav" pile up fast, so glad it helped keep things sane.

Keen to see where Life Altered goes, a deck builder with dice is right up my alley. Shout out if anything in AssetHoard ever gets in your way, or any new features you'd love to see!
