I like eccentric gay arthouse video games and this was definitely interesting! Kind of reminds me a little of Yume Nikki and Space Funeral.
I encountered a few bugs (if you already fixed them, then you can ignore lol):
- A lot of rooms just had missing collision boxes and got out of bounds many times. A significant one was in the empress’s palace.
- Might be useful to use Y-sorting for objects in the future since i’m not sure where the collisions are on most and got stuck on a few and insta-killed by an eye chaser or had to renavigate a room because collision boxes were bigger than the object itself .
- Also mazes with the chasers at the end of "The Eye of Istædamore" and "Court of the Empress" are kind of hard to navigate since it’s an insta-kill and the hallways are very narrow. I’m guessing they’re similar movement logic to the Yume Nikki chasers? They can be navigated but need more space.
Overall interested in seeing this finished.
I'm Bloof and majority of my professional life is animation/video editing but for fun I mostly produce mindfulness videogames that aren't the kind of minimalist apps you see everywhere. I like to have characters and a story for my work that people can connect to, to make the experience more real. I sometimes explore themes not normally seen in relaxation apps such as scifi and aliens.
I also compose ambient music and use dreams as inspiration for my work.
I use Gamemaker and also have my friend help me with Renpy Visual Novels. I wish I had more to post but I'm pretty new to gamedev and mostly just make very simplistic cozy games or yume nikki fangames.
1. Would you do it?
None of my games have mass appeal so it would have to be a small studio.
2. How would you do it?
How I did most of my art gigs, just cold emailing because I'm just like that.
3. Would you lose creative control?
I'm sure there will be a fight over the higher ups wanting to make my games a romance VN lol
4. What size royalty would you expect?
Enough for a sandwich

Mine is a yume nikki fangame + mindfulness app so if that's something you would want to try, feel free to. It will be more exploration based.

It's been a full 5 years since my game has been out but here's my silly relaxation visual novel.

Usually people quit their jobs after their dream project makes them money to safely live off of, not before. And quitting in this economy? I'd probably just go back to applying to jobs again and promote your game when you have free time. Being at a soul crushing job with health insurance, good pay and benefits is a luxury. Most people can barely afford rent.
