You don't have to restart your progress, the save file has no relation to the itch.io app and is kept in a separate location. You should keep your progress even if you download it from the website.
That is because you have played a newer version of the game. The itch.io version is 0.2.0.0. You have played version 0.2.4.0. Please only open versions of the game that are above the one you have previously played to avoid save file issues.
I'm glad you were able to make it work, however, you should always delete the previous exe of the game on windows, the game does not auto-update like it does on android, and also your save file will not be deleted. Please only open the game through newly downloaded versions!
It is not a problem, itch.io currently limits our upload size to 1 gb, so we were forced to use an external host for the moment. We're currently in contact with them to see if we can go back to hosting directly on the site. But for now please use the links provided, they are safe as we are the ones hosting them on our Proton accounts.
I'm not sure what the problem seems to be. We've checked and the downloaded file is 0.2.0.0 correctly for android and pc. Also, there is no "check for updates" button in Beastly Bonds. If you're on android, perhaps try using a different browser to download the game.

Unfortunately that is also not possible, we use a single post for hosting version files, as it avoids the issue of hosting multiple files across multiple posts being super confusing, and also Patreon would probably issue us a warning if we attach 1 gb files to every beastly bonds post. Which is why we only have 1 post where we just update the newest build file. Maybe one day itch will allow nsfw games to receive donations and direct purchases, then we could also plug the builds in here for those who prefer it.

That means you probably played a more advanced version than the one you currently downloaded. Make sure to play only the highest number version of the game you currently have.
