<3 tysm good soul

it's pretty similar. I personally am attatched to some of the aspects that quality of life removed, such as the low resolution and little slivers of the skybox leaking through due to the vertex wobble.
in addition, emulating the original on any of the devices listed is pretty simple, and I've never heard of or used a retro games emulator that doesn't have control rebinds and adjustments built in. I used open emu with a ps1 bio downloaded safely from internet archive. If you value the "integrity" or nostolgia of playing old games in all their quirks, I would just emulate it.

dw about it, seriously. Taking care of yourself is first priority, and I’m glad you’re prioritizing your wellbeing over this project. You deserve to feel okay, and there’s no pressure to push through this for the jam. <3

Yeah, I am definitely planning to lean into the environmental storytelling for puzzles and mysteries, since I always have the most fun with those.

If it does well in the jam I will certainly return with an update. Even if not, I still might return to it, if it continues to be enjoyed. And yes, english is easier for me, thanks. <3

I like the macabre spin on the classic "In a Dark, Dark Wood." Your Grandfather sounds quite spooky! :)

Because of it's distinctive nested structure, this entry officially claims In a Dark, Dark Wood and all its cumulative variants for our anthology registry.

Ah, my bad. Try again now?

Thanks, should be there now!

Hi, I was wondering if there's an estimated date for the Helix Jam: Money Edition bundle to go live. I'm looking forward to it! <3

thanks <3

Hi! I submitted my game last night, however it is completely unplayable. I was wondering if I could update it with the functional version? Thanks!

Hi gorou288, thanks for asking! You can visually/audibly include the poem in your game, or use it in a less direct way like progression or inspiration. What the theme is really asking you to do is to incorporate the poem meaningfully, so it's somewhat open for you to interpret.

Got it. Thank you for clarifying! <3

Can you clarify more what you mean by the split percent and the price of the bundle being based on the amount of assets submitted? does that mean that it's split evenly amongst each asset? each contributor? does the jam host take a unique cut for hosting? how will each submission chance the price of the bundle?

Hi Jeff,

I realize I’m more than a little late to this post, but I was really impressed by your demo and would love to have a sound like that for my entry!

If that sounds interesting to you, I’d be happy to share some concept art here, or I can set up an itch page with some of the concept art and core ideas I’ve been stewing over.

Cheers, fordizzy

tysm! ^w^

For the sake of making sure everyone gets a chance to use different poems, let’s stick to one claimed poem per project :)

If you have a really compelling reason for wanting to use multiple poems, feel free to reach out to me at contact.fordizzy@gmail.com and tell me about your concept! I can’t guarantee I’ll greenlight it, and if I do, I’ll hold your submission to the concept you pitched. That being said, I’m definitely open to hearing you out!

Otherwise, please pick one of your three claims as your main poem, and the other two will be up for grabs for everyone else! <3

they look so yummy

Hi! Thanks for pointing that out, the setting was on unintentionally. Already made games are super welcome so long as they are horror and meaningfully incorporate the theme. Let me know if you run into any more snags! :)

Hi, the theme announcement post is up now! You can find it here in the forum, but it's Old Poetry & Nursery Rhymes in case anyone wanders in here looking for it <3

Hey!! Haha, I literally just woke up 😭

The jam started at midnight, so I went to sleep after getting everything started and just woke up a little while ago. I definitely didn't mean to leave anyone hanging!

Also, honestly, it's really sweet that you're so excited to get started haha. I'm glad you're excited for the jam!!! ^^

The theme announcement is up now, so you can get started! I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with :)

Hey handsome :33

I'm claiming:

Tinker, tailor, soldier, sailor,
Rich man, poor man, beggar man, thief.

Nightmare Anthology — Theme Announcement

The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
And God said, (drumroll please)...

The theme is Old Poetry & Nursery Rhymes

Your game must incorporate a rhyme, poem, nursery rhyme, verse, or other rhythmic poetic text in some meaningful way.

It should, in some way or another, be central to the game.

The poem/rhyme should be an existing rhyme that lives in the public domain.

The important part is that it actually becomes part of the game rather than simply being mentioned or referenced without tying back into your game's mechanics or themes.

Some examples of what you might do with this are:

  • Having specific events correspond with lines from the poem
  • Featuring the poem as an important part of your game's plot
  • Directly adapting the poem for your game
  • Incorporating the poem into one of your core gameplay mechanics, or vice versa

Important notice! You do not have to use an entire poem. If you so choose, you may pick a specific line or passage from a larger piece, or you may choose to embellish or dramatize the content of a poem.

I like it in the pot, nine days old — don't be afraid to make it weird!

And to make sure we try a few different poems, no two projects can use the same poem. When you decide what poem you want for your entry, comment it on this post!

Choose wisely, however, since once you post it, you must use it in your submission.

If you aren't sure where to start, check out:

https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Portal:Nursery_rhymes

for nursery rhymes, or

https://poetrycatalog.com/public-domain-poetry/

for a poetry catalogue including the master haunter Edgar Allan Poe.

Thank you all for joining me on this exciting journey. I can't wait to see what awesome ideas you guys come up with!!

Ofc, it's great you're learning game design! <3

Yo! Yes, you absolutely can. Having a team is great, and so is working alone. Being 16 is also not a problem for this jam specifically if you are able to post games on itch.io. The one thing I will say on that is that you might need to get help from a parent/guardian to set up your itch account to take payments, however that's usually pretty simple. Aside from that, you are all set, welcome to the jam!

WOW! Thats amazing! I'm so happy for you and this project, its really going places!!! <3

The distribution of revenue will be handled through itch.io's automatic revshare system, with each featured developer receiving 15% of the profits, while fordizzy takes a 15% share for its game plus the leftover 10% for marketing, time, and personal greed. The rights and IP to your game remain completely yours.

While new features cannot be added after the anthology goes on sale, you can push bug fixes indefinitely. There will also be a buffer window between the jam's end and the anthology's launch for developers to polish their submissions however they choose, and once fully released, you are completely free to build sequels, reuse your characters, or expand your submission into a standalone project down the line.

ur good lol it's a specific line from the book

It's Coraline, not Caroline. Coraline!

Yay!

(dw I smacked most the flies)

Wow!

This is a really refreshing play. I am a papers please fan, admittedly, but I don't normally play games where you go clicklcikclikclik.

Ironically enough, I kind of click click clicked onto this game by random, and so the enjoyability and intuitive progression were a pleasant surprise.

The way that you have to buy movement, but it's not like super hard to get where you need to go if you are being aware of yourself. The game teaches this quickly but without being punishing, which made the whole thing feel like a little world i was getting to visit.

I really liked your game, and I can't wait to see it progress, whatever that may look like!

Salutations! This post is specifically for rules clarifying, team forming and question answering. Though we (Dizzy and I) want to provide answers to all your questions in a timely manner, we are more likely to miss them if they are posted somewhere else, so do us a solid and leave them here!

The rules are simple: Act weird and I'll throw you in the dungeon! (Sorry, we don't have a dungeon.)
More specifically, don't use any of the community features for something they aren't meant for. Posting new topics is mainly for requesting/offering talent. Be friendly (but not too friendly!)

If you would prefer not to post a new topic to offer or request talent, you can reply directly to this post instead!

If you have questions, you can also reply directly to this post! Ask relevant questions, get semi-relevant answers. Yay.

Thanks for joining,

A bundle horror jam you wont wake up from.

From the first of October through the first of November, you can scream to the silence of a solo project, or howl at the moonlight with a team. Be it analog horror or apothecary tragedies, submissions of all shapes, sizes, and appetites are welcome.

But be warned... this isn't your standard game jam. The top 5 winning games will be packaged into a commercial horror anthology sold under the fordizzy brand, featuring automatic revenue sharing via itch.io!

If any of this sounds like your poison, then stop on by. There's always room for one more soul in the Nightmare Anthology!

Nightmare Anthology

The rules, source code requirements, and legal jargon are fully detailed on the Jam page. Do you have what it takes to survive the night?

Congrats on that! You should look into your studio name before you make too many waves though, since it's really similar to Playdead, the folks who made LIMBO and INSIDE.

Thanks for the input on the puzzle, I'll look into making that part a little smoother.

Also, good catch on the windows bug! I'll get that fixed ASAP, your feedback is much appreciated <3

'Sorry I Took So Long' delivers on it's promise, a game of 99% atmosphere completed in a few minutes.

If you like walking as much as me, it's worth a playthrough.

Yeah... I totally thought that the giant fish was friendly XD

I enjoyed getting to fly around as this little girl. While I understood little, there's a strong feeling that everything shown is diegetic. Mysterious and familiar, it was a nostalgic and comforting play.

Except for the giant fish, that part was terrifying. <3

Hi nurpaul, Glad you enjoyed it! That means a lot. I'd love to see a screenshot of your wall drawings if you'd like to share.

As for the first puzzle, maybe you should sleep on it. I've heard things look different after a good night's sleep.
