I've been building Ren'Py 8 kits that run side by side in one game: each uses its own prefix and replaces no standard screen. The bundle now has 30 of them.

30 Ren'Py kits that work together in one project, $14.99 as a bundle

Systems: FX Pack (shake, camera, shaders, weather), Dating-Sim Core, Phone Kit, Extra Screens (gallery, name input, chapter select), Inventory & Quest Journal, Horror Kit, Mystery & Deduction, Minigame Pack, Map & Travel, Letters & Diary, Bars & Meters, Battle Kit, Quick Fix Pack, Release Pack, 24 scene transitions, Fake OS Kit, Point & Click Investigation Kit, Character Life Kit, Mouse & Cursor FX, Manga Emote FX, Dress-Up & Character Customizer and Story Stingers (208 sounds for story beats).

Look: five GUI kits (Themeable GUI with 6 colour themes, Paper & Ink, Night Terror, Neon Terminal, Sakura Letter), 8 textbox skins, 8 choice menu skins and 8 atmosphere VFX packs. The skin and VFX collections include their future packs.

One by one the kits cost over $100. The bundle is $14.99 until the end of January:

The newest one, Story Stingers (208 short sounds for story beats, one-line beat() calls), as a single kit:

Thanks! Honest answer: so far I have only tested it on Windows. The dragging uses Ren'Py's normal mouse events (press, move, release on the title bar), and Ren'Py turns a one-finger touch into those same events on Android and in web builds, so it should work with touch. But I haven't run it on a phone or in a browser yet, so I won't promise it. On a small phone screen the title bars may also be a bit small to grab. I'll test an Android and a web build and post the result here. If you try it first, I'd love to hear how it goes.

Thank you for your support and feedback!

Thank you

I made 8 textbox and namebox skins for Ren'Py 8: Parchment Scroll, Neon Cyber, Pastel Bubble, Gothic Iron, Wooden Sign, Retro Pixel, Minimal Glass and Comic Speech.

8 drop-in textbox skins for Ren'Py (25 cents each, or all in one pack)

Each skin has a textbox, namebox, animated click-to-continue marker and choice buttons. You copy one folder into game/ and that's it, no changes to gui.rpy or screens.rpy. Every pack has a small demo project.

They are $0.25 each right now (launch sale). The complete pack has all 8 and every skin I add later:

Happy to hear which style you would want next.

Twenty seconds is not much time to build UI, so here are a few free things you can drop in fast:

All free to use in your own games, also commercial (please link to the page instead of re-sharing the files). The code was written with AI help, which is disclosed on each page. Happy jamming!

Someone took the notebook from the clock shop, and Lantern Street has five days to find it. Lantern Street is a free, short visual novel (about 20–30 minutes) with three people to grow close to and three endings.

  • Walk the town on a clickable map; who you meet depends on the time of day
  • Read letters, keep a diary, pin clues to an evidence board
  • Pick two locks, question a witness and catch a contradiction
  • An optional cellar scene for people who like a little scare (soft scares are on by default)

It plays in the browser, or download the Windows version. It is also the demo for the Ren'Py Complete VN Template: the whole game as an editable Ren'Py project.

Feedback on the pacing is very welcome.

Update: two more kits joined the bundle, so it is ten now.

  • Mystery & Deduction Kit: evidence board, testimony with contradictions, case file
  • Minigame Pack: lockpick, combination lock, hacking wires, memory, slider and timing, each with an assist mode

Ren'Py VN Complete, 10 kits for $9.99 (about $31 separately). The single kits stay 40% off until 4 November.

I put the UI side of a Godot 4 project into one bundle. Each kit is a folder you copy into your project, and the screenshots are real Godot renders.

  • Menu & Settings Kit: main menu, pause, options, key rebinding, save slots
  • Dialogue Box Kit: typewriter text, portraits, choices, voice blips
  • HUD Kit: health bars, hearts, boss bar, hotbar, prompts, objective tracker
  • Fake OS Kit: in-game desktop, terminal, mail and a glitch mode for ARG or analog horror
  • Three UI themes as one .tres each: Fantasy Parchment, Pixel Retro, Cozy Cottage
  • RichText FX: 25 text effects (wave, quake, glitch, jelly)

Bundle: Godot UI Starter, 8 kits for $5.99 (about $20 separately). The single kits are 40% off in the Halloween sale until 4 November.

Which part of game UI do you rebuild in every project?

Hi! I released a set of Ren'Py kits that are built to run side by side: every one uses its own prefix, replaces no standard screen and passes Ren'Py's lint together with the others.

- Dating-Sim Core: affection, calendar, stats with a radar chart (https://juliusschmidt.itch.io/renpy-dating-sim-core)

- Phone Kit: messenger, contacts, social feed, calls (https://juliusschmidt.itch.io/renpy-phone-kit)

- Inventory & Quest Journal (https://juliusschmidt.itch.io/renpy-inventory-quest-journal)

- Extra Screens: gallery, name and pronoun input, chapters, achievements, credits (https://juliusschmidt.itch.io/renpy-extra-screens-pack)

- Mystery & Deduction Kit (https://juliusschmidt.itch.io/renpy-mystery-deduction-kit)

All of them are 40% off in the Halloween sale until 4 November. The Ren'Py VN Complete bundle has eight kits for $7.99: /s/210536/renpy-vn-complete-toolkit-8-kits-bundle

Free to try first: Ren'Py FX Pack Lite (https://juliusschmidt.itch.io/renpy-fx-pack-lite) and Paper & Ink Lite (https://juliusschmidt.itch.io/paper-and-ink-renpy-gui-lite).

Hi! Two free things that might help with the last polish:

- Pixel VFX Pack Lite: 5 pixel-art effects (sparkle, magic circle, smoke, hit, explosion) in 32/64/128 px for Godot, GameMaker and Phaser. https://juliusschmidt.itch.io/pixel-vfx-pack-lite

- Scene Transitions Lite: 5 soft mask transitions plus fade for Godot, Ren'Py, RPG Maker MZ, GameMaker and Unity. https://juliusschmidt.itch.io/scene-transitions-pack-lite

Free download, and the licence allows use in your own games (commercial too), so they're fine for jam entries. Made with AI assistance, disclosed on each page. Paid full versions exist if you ever want more.

Good luck with your entries!

Three free tools for Halloween entries:

- Free Jumpscare for Ren'Py: one line, $ jumpscare("ghoul"), and the image rushes in with a flash, screen shake and a sting sound. https://juliusschmidt.itch.io/free-renpy-jumpscare

- Free CRT Shader for Godot 4: drop one scene in and get curvature, scanlines and a phosphor mask, 2D or 3D. https://juliusschmidt.itch.io/free-crt-shader-godot

- Pixel VFX Pack Lite: 5 pixel-art effects (explosion, hit, magic circle, smoke, sparkle) in 32/64/128 px for Godot, GameMaker and Phaser. https://juliusschmidt.itch.io/pixel-vfx-pack-lite

All free to download, and the licence allows use in your own games, commercial too, so they're fine for jam games. They were made with AI assistance (disclosed on each page), in case that matters for your AI note. Bigger paid versions exist if you ever want more.

Good luck with your entries!

Hi all! If you want something other than the default fade between maps or into battle: Scene Transitions Lite is a free set of 5 mask transitions plus a plain fade (iris, diamond grid, pixel dissolve, blinds, wipe), with a ready RPG Maker MZ integration (also Godot, Ren'Py, GameMaker, Unity). https://juliusschmidt.itch.io/scene-transitions-pack-lite

Free download, and the licence allows use in your own games, commercial too, so it's fine for jam entries. It was made with AI assistance, disclosed on the page, so please mention it under the jam's AI disclosure rule. There's a bigger paid pack if you ever need more.

Good luck with your entries!

Hi! A few free tools that might save time this weekend:

Hi! The Godot Retro Screen Kit turns a Godot 4 game into an old screen with one node: curved CRT, worn VHS tape, first-console dither, film grain or interlaced TV.

  • 5 screen shaders and a PSX vertex material for 3D
  • 20 presets as .tres files, from Living Room TV to CCTV and Found Footage
  • A VHS on-screen display (PLAY, REC, counter, date) drawn by code with its own pixel font

Tested in Godot 4.7.2 and 4.3 on Forward+ and Compatibility; the store images are real Godot screenshots. 40% off in the Halloween sale until 4 November.

Page: https://juliusschmidt.itch.io/godot-retro-screen-kit

Free to try: a CRT shader for Godot 4 is available here: https://juliusschmidt.itch.io/free-crt-shader-godot

Hi! I released the Ren'Py Horror Kit, a folder you copy into game/ that adds the mechanics of fear to a visual novel.

  • A sanity meter that warps the picture and splits its colours below half
  • hk.jumpscare("ghoul") with flash, zoom, shake and a sting sound
  • A flashlight that follows the mouse, a heartbeat vignette, VHS tape with a running clock, blood drips
  • Four creepy text tags and chase choices against the clock
  • Soft-scare, reduced-motion and QTE-assist switches for players who need them

Tested in Ren'Py 8.5.3; the screenshots on the page are real engine screenshots of the demo. It is 40% off in the Halloween sale until 4 November.

Want to try it first? The jumpscare is also available for free: https://juliusschmidt.itch.io/free-renpy-jumpscare
