The beta requires JLP support. The same ROM shipped in the beta starts on my Windows jzIntv setup with JLP enabled using -J1. If jzIntvGUI exposes a JLP setting, try enabling it and launching the extracted TerraPrix.rom again.. If it persists, could you share your jzIntvGUI version, the TerraPrix build you downloaded, and whether the app has a JLP option? That would help me narrow down where startup is failing.
There are three separate games, and Gold puts them all on one cartridge.
- Dungeon Horde (Normal) – the original game: my own mazes in the Gauntlet II style, the original Inty heroes, a FLOOR ON/OFF option, no hero option.
- Dungeon Horde Classic – same engine, but with Gauntlet 1–style mazes, the 16×16 ZX Spectrum–style heroes and a HEROES option (INTY with the thief, or ARCADE with the valkyrie).
- Dungeon Horde Quest – a quest mode inspired by Gauntlet IV on the Mega Drive, on the same engine.
Gold = Normal + Classic + Quest + Battle on one cartridge. You pick the game by scrolling the title screens left/right, and each game keeps its own high-score table.
Standalone Classic vs Classic in Gold: the game itself is identical: same build, same levels, heroes, speeds and options. Gold’s Classic has two extras:
- a RECORD mode in the player menu: one player, one credit, and a password at every level so you can carry on from there (like Record mode in Gauntlet IV);
- CLEAR takes you back to the game-selection screens, which the standalone version doesn’t have.
The same goes for Quest: in Gold it also has BATTLE.
Thanks a lot for the detailed testing, it really helped.
I've uploaded a new version, b72. What changed:
- Score flash fixed
- Blue plane (free-for-all mode): its bullets now hit the London airship and the Egyptian camel, giving the blue plane +1 like the red and green planes.
What I could and couldn't verify: I tested with jzIntv on Linux and in my own simulator
Could you try b72 and tell me:
Do you still see any flicker, and in which scene and at what moment (menu, in game, round change)?
2. Does the score still flash when a point is scored?
3. Does anything look wrong at the start of a round?
New York (day and night):
- Kong is the only extra danger. Any plane that enters his reach box is hit.
London:
- There is no ground or building hazard other than the flat ground.
- An airship (orange or blue) crosses the sky from time to time.
- Planes don’t collide with it, so you fly through it.
Tokyo:
- There is nothing extra. The sea counts as ground, and a plane that crashes there makes a splash.
Egypt:
- The camel plays the same role as the London airship. A red or green bullet gives +1, the camel explodes, and the driver hops away.
Thanks again!
