Thank you. Since the divination, the game, and the historical facts are all interconnected—featuring Korean historical figures and a Korean form of divination—much of it likely felt unfamiliar or uncomfortable. Even so, I truly appreciate your positive review.
In the East, divination was originally an act where a king or emperor would "first ask the people, then ask the ministers, and finally ask the heavens" regarding any issue. When a king or emperor made a decision, asking the people first was because the issue directly affected their lives. Asking the ministers followed because they were the ones who would actually execute the solution. However, when a decision still could not be reached after asking everyone else, they would resort to divination as the final moment to ask the heavens.
In this game that I created, Admiral Yi Sun-sin—Korea's great hero—would earnestly cast divination to the heavens with his heartfelt wishes during the most difficult times when he was out of options.
Perhaps because of this, my research (which has also been published as a thesis in Korea) shows that his divination outcomes were always positive, and the results turned out positively as well.
Furthermore, when a divination result was hard to understand, he would cast it again until he received an answer that made sense to him. That is what sets his practice apart from other forms of Eastern divination. In other words, he was the embodiment of optimism, armed with an absolute positive mindset. He kept casting until a positive result emerged, and through those divination readings, he armed himself with a shield of positivity to lead his people and soldiers.
Thank you once again for your positive comment.
I hope you, retroromrunner, will also arm yourself with the shield of optimism like Admiral Yi Sun-sin and overcome every obstacle today!
That is precisely the issue I struggled with the most while developing this game. Connecting the game to divination, especially with authentic historical backgrounds, made it even more complex.
After much deliberation, I divided the game into two parts: "Mindful Voyage" and "Focused Voyage." I hoped that players who value the meaning of the divination could reflect on their day and ponder solutions through the "Reflection Voyage," while those who focus on the gameplay could enjoy the experience via the "Focused Voyage."
Also, when trying to explain the game in detail, I worried that Admiral Yi Sun-sin is not widely known in the Western world. As a result, the current state is somewhat of a compromise, which might look a bit ambiguous.
However, I will ponder your valuable feedback more deeply and look for ways to improve. I would greatly appreciate it if you could share your thoughts again after playing more. In my experience, when writing or creating something, you often become so familiar with it that typos, errors, and other issues simply become invisible to your own eyes.
Also, none of the people around me play games—perhaps due to my age group. Because of that, I haven't been able to receive any feedback or critique about this game.
Given that situation, the feedback you provided is extraordinarily valuable.
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much for the detailed and thoughtful feedback. The game is currently being redeveloped in 3D, and we will take your points into account—especially the canvas aspect ratio, pixel scaling, and automatic language detection based on the browser language.
We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to test the game and share such concrete observations. If you have any further thoughts or suggestions after playing, we would be very grateful to hear them.
I found out through Reddit that Admiral Yi Sun-sin appears in the mobile game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Right now, many people in the West still don't know who Admiral Yi Sun-sin is. As a researcher studying him, I am trying to create games to spread awareness of his life. There are other Korean heroes as well, but Admiral Yi Sun-sin is my top priority.
Also, regarding the game jam you mentioned, I don't have the bandwidth right now due to lack of time, as I'm currently working on a 3D game. I will consider it once that project is finished. Thank you sincerely for the advice.
Thank you for taking the time to test the game.
I’m very glad to hear that you enjoyed the battles. I also appreciate your point that continuously recommending the optimal move can reduce the satisfaction of making your own tactical decisions.
In a future update, I plan to reduce or disable these recommendations by default, while making them available only as an optional assist for new players.
Thank you again for your valuable feedback.
Hi Smokey, thank you so much for running the automated test and sharing such detailed data!
The insights on browser language detection, formation cues, and AI edge cases are incredibly helpful. I'll definitely look into these points and see how I can address them in upcoming updates.
If you run any more passes or spot anything else, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks again for taking the time to test it!
