Happy to hear you liked it. I would've loved a couple days to fix up issues, polish, and redesign the last two tracks. The 3rd track you found confusing I knew when I made it too. Pretty sure in my dev stream I said something like "they're not going to understand where to go", although ultimately you just have to get the 3 checkpoints and the path you take doesn't actually matter! The CPU racers will also randomly pick between doing a figure 8 or going out the outside. Clever to watch where they go and follow though.

With a jam this big I'd be more surprised if everyone weren't here! And unny enough the arrows were just there to let me orient the checkpoints after adding respawning mechanic last minute, so on map 3 where it's a figure 8 you end up passing through both ways making it technically wrong. I certainly needed a couple more days to polish and tune everything to perfection but that's the nature of a game jam.

Good to hear you liked it. Balance was certainly a challenge, I think on Easy as long as you regularly used the boost you'd win but I'll keep it in mind for future balancing too. For the graphics art style I originally tried flat style and the portraits just looked too weird and I swapped to the smooth shading. I'm slowly getting better at blender and will figure out a good style for next jam for sure! thanks for playing and giving the detailed comment!
I could write an essay on how good ep 1 racer was for sure, I'm a big fan. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it! I really had issues with the CPU on the last track and remade it far too many times and by the time I found the problem was not with the track itself it was too late and I didn't have time to improve it. A lot of tweaks to the racers and how they feel happened over the 4 days but getting them all just right would've taken more time to polish for sure. Glad you liked it, and also happy to hear so many people played long enough to even get to the final track!
I was streaming the development of it live and I could not help but laugh aloud at the portraits. It's honestly one of my favourite features I added to the game because I love it so much. (And yes to anyone else reading comments if you hit TAB you can cycle through all the pod racers and see things from their POV including their portrait). Thanks for playing and taking the time to comment!
