You can create a game that doesn't follow the jam's theme, but adherence to the theme is one of the criteria considered during voting. So feel free to create a game however you want, but be aware that you probably won't get as high a score.

The next Souls-like Game Jam will begin 3 months after the current one ends. We have other jams that will take place during the period when the Souls-like Game Jam is not active if you are interested. We don't have a Discord server yet.
