Thanks for playing and really humbled by this review. The initial learning curve is steep and some of the bugs (particularly one with pip bars in the combat view) don’t help to clear things that much either. If used to this game genre a lot of things are reasonably easy to deduct, if new to these games it can be puzzling and even frustrating. My unhealthy obsession with finishing polish also used a lot of my time in that and not in covering a solid manual or trying to put in a tutorial but i think the end result is good enough to match my polish level standards. Glad that you had fun playing it!
Oh, on the menu… I needed space for too many options so i thought in a rolo-dex style menu as i had already the rotation on ship selection too
thanks for playing! The game went heavily over scope :P (well it’s not that the scope was not initially in my mind…) Complexity around the gameplay kept growing and I think I managed to get enough of it in as to have an interesting result… the pain point is lack of guidance. This thing requires a full tutorial (that it has no space to squeeze in…) that will need to be replaced by some manual or some video or whatever. PICO8 limitations are getting in the way here :P (even though I am already bugfixing some stuff and trying to get the space cleared for a few eye-candy extras I could not fit in the carts during the jam). I am pretty stubborn, so I am committed to get a decently complete version up and running in pico8 alone, but most probably this project will jump over love2D or something else to be a “complete” game covering everything… even staying at 64x64 as redoing a lot of art at a bigger scale is daunting (and I am a pig for 64x64 eyecandy…). Just hoping the experience was good and you enjoyed the game so far!
The cat is so adorable! The gameplay is simple but gets surprisingly challenging with certain combinations. I agree that telegraphing multiple overlapping hands gets pretty confusing, and the long gaps between hand sets combined with slow retraction speeds feel a bit off timing-wise. Regardless, the game is super fun, cute, and simple. Great job!
Cute little game packed with so many awesome details—I loved the idle animation! The music fits perfectly and sets a really cozy mood, and that multi-layer parallax scrolling looks fantastic. There are a few spots where sprite and parallax content colors bleed into matching backgrounds, but I would say outlines would not fit the art style, so it works fine regardless. Nice job with this one!
Great entry, simple and fun! The 1-bit aesthetics look awesome, the sense of speed feels great, and having variable music speed is such a cool touch. The tombstone hitbox felt a bit too unforgiving—especially since the pseudo-perspective makes it look like you could run in front of them instead of hitting them. Adding a jump mechanic would be an amazing addition I’d say! Fantastic work overall!
Nice art and a big achievement getting this finished! However, the motion blur felt more disturbing than appealing, and the blurry sprites looked a bit strange to me overall. The high-res controls on the side also kept pulling me out of the 64x64 experience. Still a really cool effort and a solid entry!
Great visuals and sound, the mood of the game is awesome, and it’s a really interesting core idea! However, I had a tough time with the target scanning—even with the hint to capture the signal while visible on the left side of the bar, I couldn’t seem to lock targets. It felt like the pip wasn’t quite reaching that area, or maybe there’s a random chance involved? The gameplay definitely needs some heavy balancing, but there’s a lot of potential here. Great idea, but needs a bit more work.
Nice little game, even if I’m not usually the mini-game type! The variety of mini-games is fun and the low difficulty makes it super chill, though the soothing music didn’t quite put me in a medieval war mood! :P A quick heads-up on a few bugs: the controls list WASD/Cursor, but arrow keys didn’t work in the arrow mini-game for me, Enter acts as Space, and the starting city always defaults to “city name” on initial load. Nice entry overall!
