A very interesting game with strong backstory.

That was a brilliant ending lol. Loved the way you held up the tension till the end without any jumpscares on your face.

If anybody has any resources related to open-world game design and related topics, please feel free to post in this thread.

Here’s all the resources posted to the original Open World Jam’s discord server during its 2022-25 run:

World, Map and Level Design

Mechanics, Routes and Interconnected Worlds

Art, Models, Materials and Textures

Engines, Dev Tools and Technical Learning

Audio, Music and Sound design

Hey, thanks for the reply! Excited for the jam.

Not even from the USA. I’m a writer and gamedev from India. Would I be welcome to participate in this jam?

I must say, you have a knack for making loneliness a character in the game, and I love Bleakstead for it.

Was wondering if this jam is for Americans only.

This remains one of my favourite games in the entire platform. Came back to it today after the 1-Bit jam. Still feels amazing to play.

Hey, this is a reply. Nothing more, nothing less. This might have been slightly automated, or not.

You have a month to prepare before the jam begins. Here are some resources in the meanwhile to get your creative juices flowing:

Hey, I have already found a team in which I am working as a writer. We can collaborate for some other jam in the future!

Thanks! One day you’re gonna get in trouble with those titles, given the direction itch.io is heading towards.

An absolute gem and masterclass in environmental storytelling and atmosphere building.

A big fan of J-horror from the early 2000s era (think Ringu, Kairo, Dark Water). Played this today and it is an absolute banger. Love the way you establish the mood and ambience with such minimalism. Beautiful work, looking forward to more from you.

Very powerful collection. Immediate purchase. I am definitely gonna use it in my games, with attribution, and share them with you!

Joined!

Thanks!

Thanks! I like the vibe of your stuff too! I’m primarily a writer and programmer, so I’m not really an artist haha. But I’d love to join your team if there’s room for me!

Programmer and writer here. Can’t draw to save my life. Always relied on collaborators or crude geometric blocks and shapes to get me through. But this time I have this itch to draw and compose for the jam myself. Nervous, let’s see how things turn out!

Thank you so much! The story was written during a very dark phase of my life, so I think it shows in the writing and the overall design of the game.

I totally understand! I’d love to work with you in the future if time ever permits.

The message did come out very well, and you nailed the feel quite a bit. I think the background score has to do a lot with this. You did a great job on the soundscape! Would you like to do the soundtrack for one of my game jam projects?

I think this is an immensely beautiful and interesting game. You did a very good job, and your film sensibilities show. Particularly love the writing in this.

Thanks

Thanks!

Great! Texted you.

I agree! Where would you like to communicate?

Would you like to collab?

Exceptional! I got the good ending lol.

Great game! Extremely fun to play

It’s beautiful.

What message?

That’s amazing! Inspired by Balatro, we used mouse jitter data as the seed for procgen. The explored path remains until you shoot an eye. After that, the maze is re-generated. Looking forward to playing other stuff by you guys :)

Ah, gotcha — thanks for confirming! It runs well for me on Chrome and Firefox, so it sounds like there may be a Safari-specific performance/input issue, especially on older Macs. I’ll look into that and the sensitivity issue as well. Thanks for helping me narrow it down!

Thanks! Yes, the room is actually a procedurally-generated Voronoi maze.

My composer friend gave me several tunes and variations to work with but I unfortunately could not integrate the variations into the game within the deadline.

Btw, I love the art style in your game! What software did you use to make the sprites?

Which browser are you using? What device?

Was not expecting a metroidvania in this jam! Great work!

Very cool game with addictive core gameplay. I agree with Degen, adding Roguelike (or Survivors-like) upgrades to this will make it even better!

Very cool game and great music!
