By the way, after 4 merged PRs on Civic Nightmare, I just noticed you still forgot the most important part: starring the repo ⭐ 😄

Jokes aside, thanks again for the contributions ,  they’ve been clean, focused, and genuinely useful.

This is exactly what we need! sure :)

Hey, thanks ...and yes, writing/narrative is definitely an area where I'd be interested in having another person involved.

You can contact me directly at daniele.tl.project@gmail.com, or we can keep talking here first if you prefer.

And yes, AI has been part of the development process. I use it as a tool during development and iteration, but the game isn't something that was simply generated end-to-end and published. The direction, structure, characters, scenes and final decisions are actively shaped and edited as the project evolves.

Your comment about the beginning feeling “off” is actually useful. The opening has been one of the parts I've changed the most, and narrative pacing/dialogue is exactly the kind of thing where another writer's perspective could help.

So feel free to look through the game and the repo and, if you want, send me a few concrete thoughts about the opening or a scene you'd be interested in rewriting/expanding. We don't need to lock you into a rigid task beforehand.

Repo: https://github.com/Daniele-Cangi/civic-nightmare

And I'll take a look at your writing thread too. Thanks for reaching out!

Hey, thanks ! that sounds exactly like the kind of contribution I'm hoping for.

The project is intentionally still a bit loose, so feel free to explore the game and the repo without worrying about fitting into a predefined roadmap.

If something stands out while playing : a gameplay issue, rough edge, bug, pacing problem, or even something in the code that could be improved /opening a focused issue first is perfectly fine. And if you already have a clear fix, a PR is very welcome too.

The repo is here: https://github.com/Daniele-Cangi/civic-nightmare

Thanks for taking a look!

Helllooo, I thought it was time to start a proper development thread for Civic Nightmare.

The game has existed for a while, but recently I started tearing parts of it apart again because I wasn't happy with one thing: most of the satire was happening in dialogue so, just need a gamplay...After that, the gameplay just went wild 😄

So I tried something stupid , I started turning the satire itself into gameplay removing any limit to imagination, that got out of hand pretty quickly.

The opening is now an arcade driving sequence, one procedure became blackjack, another became a bureaucratic machine, monetary policy somehow became pinball... and I'm still keeping the same ridiculous objective underneath all of it: renew a passport.

I'm currently in the “fix everything I've just broken before breaking something else” phase 😄

I'll use this thread to post what I'm working on, experiments that survive, experiments that don't, screenshots, mechanics and probably some very questionable ideas.

Feedback is very welcome, and if you want to contribute: https://github.com/Daniele-Cangi/civic-nightmare

It starts well and looks cool, but please add better controls or make it clearer what keys to press ;)

Beautful style :)

Really cool game, I need to work out how to jump between platforms better but it flows well and the setting is beautiful. Excellent controls

thanks, I will

Yeah, I really let my imagination run wild hahaha

⚠️ CIVIC NIGHTMARE 2.0

THE RULES HAVE CHANGED.

It started with a passport.

A citizen. A form. Six signatures.

Simple enough.

Then Civic Nightmare started changing.

The dialogue wasn't enough anymore.

The satire had to move.

It had to react.

It had to fight back.

So the bureaucracy became playable.

THE ROAD IS PART OF THE PROCEDURE.

Doors don't simply open.

Rules mutate while you're following them.

Systems become machines.

Machines become games.

And sometimes the game itself decides it would rather become something else entirely.

You may understand the rules.

That does not mean the rules will still exist when you win.

You may complete the procedure.

That does not mean the procedure considers itself complete.

And while you're trying to survive all of this...

something else is happening quietly in the background.

THE SYSTEM IS WATCHING HOW YOU PLAY.

Not what you were supposed to do.

Not what the interface expected.

What you actually did.

Your choices.

Your detours.

Your contradictions.

Your curiosity.

Even discovering what the system has recorded about you can become part of the record.

CIVIC NIGHTMARE 2.0 IS BUILT AROUND ONE IDEA:

Satire shouldn't just be something you read. It should happen to you.

The world is bigger.

The mechanics are stranger.

The visual identity has changed.

The game refuses to stay in one genre for very long.

And I'm still pushing it further.

🕹️ PLAY IT

Enter the procedure.

Break the rules.

Discover what happens when the rules break back.

🛠️ THIS NIGHTMARE IS OPEN SOURCE

Civic Nightmare is not only playable.

It's open.

Writers. Developers. Pixel artists. Game designers. Visual designers. People with strange ideas that absolutely should not belong in the same videogame.

You are welcome here.

→ ★ STAR CIVIC NIGHTMARE ON GITHUB

→ ⌘ CONTRIBUTE TO THE PROCEDURE

If your idea makes you think:

“There is absolutely no reason this should be inside Civic Nightmare.”

Good.

That may be exactly where it belongs.

THE PROCEDURE HAS RESUMED.

Your passport is still pending.

Estimated delivery: 4–6 business years.

Hi Builders,

I’m opening Civic Nightmare a little more seriously to contributors.

It’s a small Godot RPG that started as a strange side project and, unsurprisingly, became progressively stranger.

It’s a 16-bit political satire RPG with a procedural overworld, absurd locations, dialogue-heavy encounters, hidden scenes, arcade-style interruptions, conspiracy-level detours and a cast of very recognizable public figures thrown into situations they probably never expected to be in.

The project is already playable and has a complete game structure, but it was never designed around a conventional roadmap or even a particularly conventional idea of what an RPG should be.

That is also the part I’d like to preserve.

I’m currently focused on several other projects, so rather than letting Civic Nightmare sit untouched, I’d love to see what other people might bring to it.

Contributions could be anything from:

• Godot / GDScript improvements
• gameplay polish
• new rooms or encounters
• dialogue and writing
• pixel art
• UI/UX
• sound and music
• accessibility
• translations
• testing and bug fixes

There is deliberately no giant feature list waiting to be implemented.

If you play it and think “this would be better if…”, that is probably a perfectly good place to start.

Small fixes are welcome. Weird ideas are welcome too.

For larger gameplay or story changes, opening an issue first is appreciated so we can make sure they still fit the very loose logic of the world.

The source code is available under the MIT License. Media and narrative assets have separate usage terms documented in the repository.

If you enjoy working on projects that are a little outside the usual boundaries, feel free to jump in.

Making it more polished would be great.

Making it stranger without breaking it might be even better.

Done. Thanks

XCP Studio is preparing for release.

Build games elsewhere. Adapt them to Xbox. Run them on real hardware — no Microsoft SDK required.

XCP Studio already supports the foundations for 2D, 3D, UI, audio and behaviour through its own adaptation and runtime pipeline.

It isn't a universal “drop any game in” converter yet.

But the important part already works.

Build somewhere else. Adapt it. Run it on Xbox.

The next devlog will be the release.

WorldLoop

Hi everyone,

We are building WorldLoop, a web-to-Roblox procedural construction engine.

The goal is to remove the “empty baseplate problem”: instead of manually blocking out every house, tower, compound, or map element from scratch, you generate architecture from a web dashboard, preview it, and send it into Roblox Studio.

WorldLoop is not an official Roblox product. It is an independent creator tool built around a deterministic CAD-style generation engine.

Current features include:

- procedural houses, towers, buildings, compounds, and castle-like structures

- browser-based 3D preview

- Roblox Studio delivery through a local helper

- Roblox OAuth sign-in

- structure size/style/material controls

- interiors, stairs, roofs, doors, windows, and facade logic

- experimental mesh, voxel, and destruction-oriented modes

The stable part of the system is the CAD/primitive generation pipeline and  the surface/voxel map. Mesh layer is being developed as optional experimental layer, not as the structural truth.

I’m currently using itch as a public beta/devlog surface and would like feedback from creators who build environments in Roblox Studio.

Try / view the project:

Any feedback on the workflow, positioning, or first impression would be very useful.

thanks! if you look closely, many cards recall both VG and movie characters, a mix of the 90s

thanks and yes it´s a bit crazy :)

Happy to answer about the game! enjoy

Hi everyone,

I’ve released a small browser game called Civic Nightmare.

It’s a short satirical RPG where a broke citizen tries to renew a passport while moving through a distorted world of bureaucracy, power, media spectacle, and political caricatures.

Visually it leans into retro game aesthetics, CRT distortion, and a deliberately strange atmosphere. It’s not a big polished commercial game, but a compact interactive satire built to be memorable, uncomfortable, and hopefully funny in the right way.
