I had a ton of fun playing this! It was fun getting to learn the different magics, and figuring out what worked best against what monsters, as well as seeing what monster represented which horror. La was my favorite magic but I tried investing in them all! All the characters were so distinct too, and it was interesting seeing the different ways conflict affected each of them.
I do think the sound effect that plays during exams lasts a bit too long as it keeps playing over the following scenes which can be a bit distracting. I also started getting the exact same cutscene over and over again with Arcara at some point in the game.
Ahhh I started to suspect pretty early on who might be turning into a horror, and the one it was was my fav! Going to school while having that in the background, as well as old conflicts looming over the school environment was pretty cool, though, and the way the academy was portrayed in the background was so pretty.
Thanks for making this!

This was awesome! Such a fascinating and unique story, and I'm blown away by the sheer amount of art done for this. The screen was constantly interesting, and changing.
I'd love it if there was somewhere that I could see the instructions for the controls! I usually press space bar to progress through games, and this time space bar brought me to the beginning. I thought the line "I can tell the rubber band will break" was meant to play over and over and over again (banger opening line by the way). It was a cool experience, but also a mistake on my part.
I'm glad I got to experience this, though, and will think about the story a lot.
This was so fun to play, and especially wonderful to listen to! The characters were excellent, and it was so interesting to hear all of their different perspectives in a dire situation. I also loved all of their designs, I really grew attached to them, and hope they go on many future adventures!
Thanks for the incredibly fun game!

Thank you so much for all your thoughts and feelings about the game!! It really means a lot! I'm so glad the characters had an impact.
Some extra lore tidbits that weren't in the game!
- Confirming now that Firth and Lutia both sailed on Silas's father's pirate ship. Firth had been working under the cruel but strong captain for a long time, and Lutia joined later paying them in jewels to take her on a voyage. Lutia seduced the captain to take on the curse of the bone knife so that she could get access to the sacred pearl, then later ran away with her true love, Firth.
- Both the pearl and the bone knife came from the body of the ancient god Nymphaea was trying to resurrect. The pearl was actually its solidified tear. Both were stolen by the royal family that initially came to slaughter the god.
- After Lutia disappeared, sometimes Nymphaea would sometimes let Firth get a glimpse of Nymphaea on shore. Because they had similar faces due to being twins, it ended up driving Firth insane a little bit.
- Silas had originally set off with his brother to find a cure for the curse. At a nearby island town his brother fully changed into a monster and had to be put down by the townsfolk. Silas stole a boat to escape, but unable to effectively sail it on his own, ended up shipwrecked where Cordelia then found him.
- A lot of the merfolk and humans in the area have remnants of the blood of the ancient god within them. The merfolk especially have a connection to its ancient rage and pain, and as it started to awaken, it began sickening them and changing them into extensions of its flesh (vaila)
- Achaeus's family used to be close to the royal family before Nymphaea's reign.
haha I feel proud now! I was afraid of saying too much in case I gave anything away but I do want to say I was blown away by the amount of polish you guys managed in a month, and how much characterization you were able to give Christopher with the environment.
I’m going to try and get my friend to play now! Thanks for making this!
First things first this game is beautiful, huge kudos to your artists. The backgrounds were crazy detailed.
I do admit I struggled a bit with understanding what was going on, especially a lot near the beginning. As a layperson it was harder to understand the terms and technology. I think the prose was really nice, though, and I really did feel like I was watching a group of technicians at work.
It drew me in mostly when Rowen started bringing up the lichen, then the slow build up to crazy stuff going on. I think the choice to use little music helped fill the mood, a long with the static and beeps. I know this is unreasonable to expect, especially during a jam, but I think this is the type of game that I think would be very nice voiced!
Anyway, awesome work you guys! Spooky and lovecraftian! I'm going to go look up some terms now.
Wow this game is a delight to look at! Everything is just so beautiful, it was fun to keep watching the screen and how everything was animated. I'm interested to see where the story goes too!
I ran into some issues where the text was too big for the textbox making it hard to read, but just for a couple dialogue lines.
Awesome looking game! Especially the water effects.
Aaah I really enjoyed this game. The way you wrote the undersea society was so creative, and I like how it feels like there's so much going on in the world than we're able to see.
That transformation was visceral and Hyraen is a freak (affectionate)
I also enjoyed the little touches like the different text boxes. I could really tell this was made with a lot of care and thought. The voice acting was also really good!
Really fun spooktober entry! I always enjoy more mermaid content
