Ha I like this take on the theme, nice job. The feedback when shooting is really good!

Fun simple game. Well done! I wished it had a more weapons that it cycles through, but I know time is limited.

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, the initial idea was to have a lot more. I had ideas for mines with self damage to force the player to move around, bomb, poison bottle with AoE surface damage etc.

But eventually, it was deadline time and I had not gotten to any of the fun stuff. :D Glad I managed to sow together what I had at least.

Good fun .. I got to around 25 or so after a bit of practice. How many baddies are the in total? It's interesting that the dagger is much more useful than the throwing axe .. reminds me of the Ghost and Goblins weapons. Well done to Finn too!

Developer

Thank you! It's 30 baddies, so you are close. :)

Is there an actual .rom I can download?  I'm familiar with the pico8, but I have never tried it before.  Somebody a while back made a pico8 emulator for the Saturn, so that would be an interesting way to play this game :D

my primary criticism would be the fire rate of the weapon is pretty low, I could do it but, it felt like a losing battle.

the other is for keyboard controls, I would just use WSAD for direction and maybe space for fire or some other keys, it worked but it wasn't a pattern I'm used to.

I didn't see a way to change the weapon, I suppose I could have pressed every key on my keyboard, but by then I was already dead :D

Hi! Thanks for playing. :)

I only built the web version but it can generate binaries as well.

The original plan was to have more weapons but there was no time, and the weapon switches after each use automatically (after hit/some time, no bindings) :)

In pico8 you are given a set of keys as default. To change them you need to start reading memory addresses and afaik implement your own state around if they were pressed this frame, is still pressed, repeat delay etc. I feel your need for WASD but I simply did not have time for that trickery neither. :/ Controller is nicer at least.

understood, I have never tried to make a pico8 project.  the controls did work at least, it was just awkward - that wasn't on you!

Developer

It is what it is. :)

PICO-8 is a great piece of software, highly recommended.
