Description
Forgotten World is an original fantasy game soundtrack created for the OST Soundtrack Jam theme, “Songs of a Forgotten World.”

The piece imagines exploring the ruins of a once-thriving world—melancholic and mysterious, but with a sense of wonder and discovery. I took a hybrid approach to the score, blending orchestral strings, winds, and choir with analog-style synth leads, arpeggios, and bass to create something that sits between traditional fantasy scoring and electronic game music.

Written, performed, produced, and mixed by Dirk Kitterlin.

Theme

Songs of a Forgotten World

How does it fit the theme?
I approached the theme as if the music itself were an artifact from the forgotten world—a distant melody still echoing through its ruins.

Cool submission though, might be a tad bit repetitive after a while. Thank you for sharing!

Cool ambience, the radio effect on the track was really interesting and I like the use of reverse notes.

Though, it felt a bit repetitive. Whether it's the melody played by the main synth, the strings or the background synth playing arps, it was repeated a bit too many times. More variations or longer themes would be great, but you could also use some macros on your main synth to make them change over time. Or use a completely new synth as well. I also felt like the bass line was a bit too simplistic, and there were a bit too much highs.

Lastly, I felt like the main synth were a bit too dry. They could use a bit more reverb, eventually have their volume a little bit lower as well.

Nonetheless, congrats for finishing the jam !

I like the use of reverse instruments to make it feel otherworldly.

I think perhaps the bass side of your track could be improved. It feels very top heavy and the bass feels very static at times just playing a single note from the chord without much else to help it which causes that top heavy feeling. Because of that, the song can wear on the ears quicker from a lack of balance.

Also, where did the cover image come from?

All right I am for any square or triangle waves! I think you did a great job at composing and arranging this song. The sections flowed and felt like I was on a journey. You used melody and harmony to great affect capturing the theme as well. I find your mix vary in quality listening on my end with the hardware I am on though. I am using an amp and headphone setup that is supposed to be quite neutral, but I was getting some harshness on my end which can be an objectively great choice! I am curious about your mixing and thought process if your ever down to chat! Thanks for your composition and sharing!

It feels like I'm entering a desolated world...

The idea of the music itself being an artifact of the old civilisation onve living here is a cool one and it seems to work with this song. I like the choice of instruments, I think you made it work really well. At first I was afraid that it gets repetitive, and if it is melodically, the song actually progesses slowly but seemlessly, it's not boring, and it conveys the sense of discovery behind every detail as you go on exploring the ruins.

That repetitive melody is actually hooking when it comes back ! Well done mate :)
