Description
The game concept was of many islands in the sky containing ancient ruins and strange structures that are the ruins of the world below the cloud sea. The protagonist would be a winged warrior, flying to distant dungeons/temples and returning to a bright and jubilent home town.
Ancient Cistern - is the main theme for the game's water dungeon.
Flood Keeper - would be the theme for the final boss of the water dungeon.
I composed all my work in Jummbox, mostly going by ear and how it sounds played back. I also used the "Snap to Scale" function in Jummbox to keep a coherent note set.
Message from the artist
This was my first Jam project, and I definitely set myself far too ambitious goals. I had a lot more songs planned, including the more upbeat "sky travel theme" and "main town theme" but ran out of time to finish them. However, this was a fun challenge! I'm glad to have tried.

Congrats on your first jam submission! I really enjoyed the vibe of these tracks, I thought the style of composition was especially creative and playful with how the instruments interacted and I think the sounds you chose work really well for a water dungeon theme. Well done!
Great job—it's awesome that you took the plunge and participated in a jam for the first time!
Keep composing; I’d love to see what else you create in the future.
I like the textures you used in Ancient Cistern with the reversed synths, woodblocks, and more! I think you could have added a brighter texture or a melody that sits less in the mids and bass to make it sound less muddy. The harmony design could be more interesting too, as it feels like it's droning between 1-2 chords. I like how you brought up elements like the reversed synths in the final boss, with more drum "footstep"-like sounds, adding to that intimidation. Besides that, there isn't enough intensity in this track until it picks up a bit in the middle with the two harmonizing synth lines. I think a more active melody with more driving drums or a groove could heighten the intensity. Also, try to play more with chords and modes to add more harmonic interest and development. Nice job on the first jam!
A song called ancient Cistern and an entry called Under the cloud sea? I see what's going on. You want me to think about Skyward sword and Xenoblade chronicles 2.
I liked the woodblock used in ancient cistern. I see you used the snap to scale function to keep a coherent note set. It is a useful tool for making things consistent, but it also compromises some of those fuin notes you get by having accidentals which leads to safer, but somewhat less interesting songs a lot of times.
I really liked the overall vibe of your soundtrack. Flood Keeper has a nice sense of movement and progression throughout that made for a really nice listen. I like the basis for your game so I hope you do end up going back to finish the tracks you didn't have time for. Congrats on your first jam submission!
Ancient Cistern:
Reminds me of an old SNES RPG game. There's a lot of good melodic ideas throughout! I have a couple things that I could recommend that would enhance the song. First of all, having an 'implied' bass note on one note for the entirety of the song sort of drags out the repetitive nature. In order to fix this, you can have a dedicated bass pattern that provides the chord progressions, because right now, it feels every interpretive where the chords are. Second of all, having a soft lush pad in the background will fill up that emptiness. You can keep some areas empty because of the water dungeon feel, but the whole song shouldn't feel entirely empty.
Flood Keeper:
The implied chords are stronger in this song and I like that! From what I can hear, the boss is pretty large because of how slow the song feels. Perhaps the beginning drum notes are the Flood Keeper's steps. That's what I thought anyways. I like how the song picks up in speed later on, which gives the piece contrast. Again, the bass notes will drastically impact how we hear the melody we're trying to pick up on.
Thanks eternityKitten for your awesome submission!
Very good start for your first jam! I could definitely feel the vibe of exploring ruins in a sky to this soundtrack. It reminded me of the soundtracks of edutainment games I would play as a kid that would make me excited to explore every corner even on repeat playthroughs. Looking forward to seeing what you do in the future!
