Working in a budget shop where you are the only employee at the till, with a never ending queue, a faulty system, and even people trying to cheat by sticking discount labels onto normal goods, are surely going to go well. Surely Nothing can go wrong... right?

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?

Very good! I love the artstyle and the gameplay is really enjoyable too. I had a bit of trouble getting the scanners to stay in one spot but I was able to get the hang of it after a while! Good job!

Developer

Thank you for playing! Glad you enjoyed the game! Hopefully, once you get the hang of the scanner, the game will become more enjoyable to play!

Really pretty & polished game!

Definitely would like difficulty settings I can do like 8 clients before dying ( wouldnt be a great cashier ) XD

QR code acutally works too! But theres a typo :P

To me switching left & right click functions would be way more intuitive too!

Love all the lil details you added & man that POS is really unstable XD !

Well done!

Developer

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the game! I am furious about the typo in the QR code now. How come I missed that during testing! 8 customers were not bad at all, some didn't even make it to 5 (I am very sad about that). I guess I need to pay a bit more attention when balancing games. Swapping controls is now on my todo list and should be done post jam :)

Great game! Very visually appealing and fun to play, I found it difficult to scan things because the scanner didn't line up with the code but all it took was some trial and error :) I like how you make people read the how to play before playing even if it is not that clear haha its nice not to be spoon fed, Good job!

Developer

Thank you for playing! Glad you enjoy it! The forced tutorial was a result of last jam where we got a game with very complex mechanics, and although we have a detailed how-to-play page in the game, quite a few players are not even reading that. Luckily, this game is not that complex and forcing 6 pages without text wouldn't be too much.

I loved so many things about this game. How frustrating it was when your system crashed, the sound effects, music, art style and UI, all were really good! Super impressed, great job <3

Developer

Thank you for playing! Glad you enjoy it! Hope that crash doesn't cost you a game, but at least it's quite funny.

This game is amazing. Especially as a UI designer I am IN LOVE with the choices you made here. The scrolling textures on  the products, the menus, the screen for scanning. Ahhh, its all so diegetic. Fantastic job. Everything in the artstyle is so consistent. A real eye catcher. The mechanic was first a bit frustrating because I didnt understand the grabbing point matters, but as soon as I figured it out I had a blast. (Also the thumbnail is a great composition).

Developer

Thank you for playing! Hearing that from a UI designer really makes me happy. I am no artist but instead just a programmer that draws a bit. The diegetic UI starts from the pause menu, where we don't know what to do with it at first. An idea struck when I saw an EGX badge lying on the table, and we decided to do in-universe stuff for UI instead. It turns out nicely fortunately!

Nice game! Great visiuals and audio. The only things I dislike is the spinning of barcode scanner, it is hard to scan. But still very good game!!!

Developer

Thank you for playing! Hope you enjoy the game! The barcode scanner wasn't meant to swing that much, and it's a combination of the physics system and that irragular shape that makes it very unstable. But it adds to that chaotic feel, and we decided to keep it. Not sure if it's a correct choice now

Fun game. I hope you made the how to play confusing on purpose, because it is actually quite fun to learn the mechanics while playing :)

Nice and unique art style. Did not find any bugs either.

Good job :)

Developer

Thank you for playing! Glad to hear that you can't find any bugs. I guess there are still some here and there, but at least they don't affect the game significantly.

Amazing game! the concept and art were great!!

Developer

Thank you for playing! Hope you enjoy the game!

Very nice game! I love the idea and mechanics. The instructions could be a bit clearer, and I’m glad I read the note on your Itch page about how to get the monitor. The sound and art fit very well, making the game a great experience. I really enjoyed playing!

Developer

Thank you for playing! Glad you enjoy it! Yeh the instruction is quite weak at the moment. Shouldn't get too lazy and try to fit too much into just 5 slides, especially the last two slides.

A really complete little game ! Congrats to the team on that ! The mini games are fun and the 3 scanning methods are really interesting ^^ I only hoped I could more easily scan elements on the side x) Congrats to you both ! The looks are great and the gameplay is nice !

Developer

Thank you for playing! Making every object physics-based got that side effect of a very unstable scanner. We could make it so that it is more balanced, but I think the swinging really makes people try to scan barcodes sideways. I think thats a win xd. Anyway, glad you enjoy the game!

Yes I understand the design choice for it, no problem ! :) again, congrats on the game it was really fun !

I wasn't sure what to expect since I know you were struggling with time on this, but wow!! I was greeted with the title screen, very beautiful - I like all the small animations and even the button hint to suggest that you should click on how to play! Gameplay wise, it's super awesome!!! I thought the blue screen was funny as heck, and you made me solve captchas 🤣 but it added to the charm and was very enjoyable. Mechanics, rotating the objects and getting the right orientation for the bar code was a challenge but very cool - I didn't find it frustrating, just added to the game experience honestly. While the game itself is quite simple, you added all these small features (Bar, QR, magnifying glass, button input), that made the game feel a lot more than it really was - this is an excellent simulator. And I thought it was especially funny to use the security button on my first playthrough that I just sent everyone to jail to see what would happen 🤣The art was amazing and music made me feel like I was playing something like Harvest Moon. Anyway, incredible entry for one week - I enjoyed every moment of this!

Developer(+1)

Ha ha, thanks for your kind words! I am so fixated on doing polish this time around, so I guess that takes more time than usual. At least it looks decent enough! We've planned for at least double the amount of stuff like age challenges, breakable goods, robbery and such, and those got left out by time, so yeah I guess that's where the struggling comes from. It is also a bit sad that the security button isn't used more, and it is probably so rarely seen that quite some players never even know what that does. Anyway, glad you enjoyed it!

P.S.1 It's a single-week jam this time not a two-week one :)

P.S.2 Did you get a crash when solving captchas? Both minigames got a fail state where it is possible to crash the system :)

Submitted

I typed two weeks on reflex since we just came out of pirate jam, thanks for pointing that out cos I didn't even notice 🤣 I didn't get any crashes, I made sure to pay attention to the screen enough  and not fail the captchas - I assume not failing doesn't make it crash? At least, the crashing didn't feel random to me 😂 yeah, I think due to time constraint the security button found less use but that's alright - it's a one week jam after all and can't expect perfection even though I enjoyed your game a lot!!

Well made game! Had to take out the mouse cause it's impossible with a trackpad. Simple, but extremely effective and cohesive artstyle. Well put together. It feels like a game from direct experience from working as a cashier

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! Sorry for not thinking about trackpad users. I don't even have one on my development computer :( One of our team members did work the tills before, so there is some real first-hand experience there XD

The game is amazing, i love the art and sound design ^^

Was a bit tricky to get it at first, i didn't know you could interact with the phone ^^'

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you like it! We were so used to pulling out the monitor without a second thought. Should have convey that informationion better in-game

Submitted(+1)

Like the game like the idea and especially the visuals are great. Good job.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! Hope you enjoy our game!

Was a bit hard to understand at first but once I got playing it was addicting!

Developer

Thank you for playing! A bit hard to understand means that we are not doing a great job telling people how to play. But glad you liked it!

Submitted(+1)

Fun Game!! Loved everything about it!:D

Developer

Thank you for playing! Hope you enjoy it!

You really nailed the visuals! The theme is really fitting for this type of game, and it is fun as well. The only thing I would change is to not use right click for dragging. This combination is a bit unusual and makes finding out how the game works a bit hard. Other than that, really good work! I'd appreciate if you checked out my submission as well. :)

Developer

Thank you for playing! Yeh that input scheme was a bummer. What was I thinking when implementing that? Will make a change post jam. Thanks for the kind words!

Awesome game, easy to understand, a lot of art for 7 days, good job!!!! :D

Developer

Thank you! Yeh my hand hurts a bit after that intensive drawing. But I think it was worth it!

really fun concept and art!

Developer

Thank you for playing and I hope you enjoyed it!

Really loved the artstyle! Gameplay was also fun and engaging. I think the monitor should be hinted to open at the start but overall epic!

Developer

Thank you for playing! Yeh the monitor is one of the main taking points in the comments, and I should do a better job hinting that.
