How does your game fit the theme?
In Next Level Tank Fighting, the next level button is ripped out of place. If you just kill all the enemy tanks, the button is missing and you cannot do anything but options and replay. Only by finding and collecting the button in the level can you Break The Loop.

LOL that's clever application of the theme. You need to pickup the next button before destroying enemies. Otherwise you are stuck in the same level, resulting the loop. I hope it gave instructions at first to avoid the confusion of next button is not working. Or maybe hide the next button with a message below "You need to find the next button" if we did not get it before clearing the map. Good work.

A fun concept with a surprising twist—you can’t just destroy all the tanks before finding the next button! 😄

The visuals were simple but effective, and the controls worked well, though I would have liked the tank to move a bit faster. The crates also slid around a bit, though that might have been intentional. And when one got destroyed in level 2 you have to restart.. Maybe add some extra ones as spares to make it less punishing to shoot one or that the enemy shoot one.

The music was fine, but it did get a bit repetitive over time. The theme was incorporated—check!

All in all, a solid jam entry! Keep up the good work! 🚀🎮👍

Neat concept! I liked the innovation of having the next level button be something that is withheld from the player, and part of the gameplay - that's a really unique idea and an awesome way to interpret the "breaking the loop" theme. That being said, there are a lot of improvements that I would want to see in the game. For one, the slow movement speed got tiring at times and made the gameplay feel too slow. I also think you could've shown the next level button being broken more clearly in game, perhaps by adding cracks to the button, making it greyed out more, etc. This way, you wouldn't have to explain it in the game's instructions. As for the graphics, I think they were simple but nothing too special. They worked for what the game was, but weren't too over the top. I think the music was good, but I wish there were more sound effects for all the actions. This would help the game be more immersive and interesting to play.

Overall, great job on the game - keep it up!

Clear goal. Divides the player's attention by solving puzzles and fighting enemy tanks at the same time. I like how you cant kill all the enemies which makes it challenging and fun on top of figuring things out. The movements felt a bit too slow, especially during times when you need to move through a long distance in the map. Your reply in one of the comments about adding a sprint or full throttle might be just the thing to improve this. Artistically has room for improvements too. Keep it up. Well done!

I like the idea of hiding behind the boxes

Nice little game idea! I really like how you’ve gotten rid of the next-level button, making the player search for it instead. This clever twist breaks the usual loop of simply progressing by defeating enemies, which makes it a great fit for the theme. The overall art style is quite simple, and there’s definitely room for improvement... Additionally, the music feels a bit ‘offbeat’ - almost like it was AI-generated or just not the best fit for the game’s atmosphere.

Still: It’s a creative concept with a lot of potential. Congrats on creating this game, and I hope you keep developing it further!

Music feels offbeat because I’m a mediocre composer and didn’t spend much time on it. Just slapped together some French horn, guitar, and drums into some random composing website to make it sound sort of “war” themed since it is tanks, moved things around until they sounded sorta right. No music theory.

Will absolutely spend a litle more time on it in a post jam update (which will also include a few other things)

Thanks for the detailed review! I’ll try to match it after I give yours a go.

I think the game has a great start. I really wish tanks had some sort of shooting SFX, and the music started to drive me crazy after some time. I think movement is a tad bit too slow. I spent a good portion of the game just from getting from place to place, especially when a lot of the puzzles involve moving around a lot.

Cute design and simple but fun combat / puzzle elements. Level design was a blast in this.

There no loop to be fond!

Have you tried killing the enemy in level one? When you do that, you realize you are stuck in a loop of replaying the first level until you find the next level button. Each level is a loop like that. You are breaking the loop by picking up the next level button.

Interesting concept but the game would certainly benefit a lot from a few tweaks in the gameplay. II think I stopped at level 5 because the levels are quite long and I didn't feel like doing it again after dying close to the end. But I like the strategy aspect of the game where you need to choose what enemy you should keep alive to create a path to the next button :)

Level 8 only has one enemy and it’s almost completely invisible. Puzzle solving but there is an invisible guy trying to get you, and you can’t fend it off because you’ll win without the next level button. One of my favourite levels. Naturally I designed that enemy to not be too challenging.

I like the mixture between the combat and the puzzle kind of thing. I felt it to be a bit punishing to have so tiny health bar in comparison with the time you have to spend on the level and the damage enemies deal. Its also punishing that if you loose a box you have to let yourself be killed to restar the level. I believe whit a bit of tweaking this game could be more fun. Keep up the hard work!

Very interesting idea. I like the concept but I gave up in level 3... Maybe I'm just not patient enough for such a retry heavy game. It's like you know what to do but it's hard and annoying to perform with the slow movement, enemies destroying you or someone destroying boxes that you need. Faster movement would make it easier for everyone to dodge bullets unless bullets are also faster. Maybe an optional 2x game speed mode? The third level looked really long... Maybe destroyed enemies could drop health or upgrades so that you can heal and have an advantage over the enemies.

I figured it out:

In the post jam update, I’ll give the player a sprint/full throttle which will greatly decrease accuracy in exchange for speed, with the accuracy thing not wearing off until you’ve stopped for a moment. That way you have a movement option that lets you play aggressive in combat or you can use it for more effective peeking strategies. Oh also I’ll add something to prevent boxes from getting stuck.

Level 3 is intimidating, I’ll have to make it look less so.

Thanks for giving my game a go!
