"You identify them as kobold thanks to their dumptruck asses" - ah yes, I think I can see the tone we're going for here lol.

I think this is the closest to a full-on parody that I've read so far in the jam, which was refreshing since super emotional gut-punching stories of love and loss do take their toll after a while, but this one also maybe lacked some polish here and there to really elevate it to top tier.

Breaking things down by criterion, spoilers from this point forward:

Implementation of Theme:

Sure, you've got the literal moon being obscured by literal dark clouds and then you have Amandine being the light for both our main fella and the town of loups garous at large since she saves the day and KOs the dragon so they can have the moon again. I'm fine with it. It's not like, groundbreaking, but it's good enough.

Story:

So, I feel that comedy is the absolute hardest genre to get right in translation - there's so much of comedy that comes down to wordplay, timing, and structure that even the slightest difference in wording, syntax, or even cultural significance can be the difference between a joke absolutely slaying and falling flat.

There were quite a few moments in this VN that got a snicker out of me, but there were many more moments when I was unfortunately thinking "this probably hits a lot harder in French." I feel like this also contributed to my other main issue with the story, which is that, while I know the point here is to be over-the-top and absurd, much of the VN felt just a touch too "le random" for my taste. You have enough information in here to set up each of the jokes/scenes, but it never really feels, like, cohesive. Almost more like a string of vignettes or sketches than one structured story.

Presentation:

Honestly most of it was fine in my opinion - I obviously appreciate all the sprites and CGs you created for this on such a short time frame (who's Amandine I'm still thinking about Mirabelle), and the music and backgrounds certainly did their jobs, though there were several instances of sprites sitting in awkward spaces compared to the background. Positioning your sprites in more natural spots is something you may want to work on for next time.

This is going back to the translation bit above, but there were a few questionable presentation choices I found where I wasn't entirely sure if they were actually "mistakes" per se or if they were supposed to be part of the joke:

- I'm not sure why there's a portrait for Mirabelle near the dialogue box. Usually you do that either for someone who's not on-screen (like you do for the MC) or to have that be an emotion-specific image so you don't have to create new full sprites, like for example the main sprite stays the same but the portrait in the corner shows the character laughing or blushing. The portrait for Mirabelle is literally just copy-pasted from her sprite in center screen, so I'm not sure what the point of that was.

- No idea why the text turns blue during part of the scene with the chief.

- Not sure if the "click 'fight' to win" thing was making fun of RPG fighting mechanics or if there was an actual fight system that got cut to jam constraints.

- When Amandine returns to normal size after her first time being giant it looks like she's attached to a masculine body with no breasts. Not sure if that was intended.

Also there's the whole menus being in French thing but it seems like you're already well aware of that.

Creativity:

Judging from your other projects, it seems like expansion is a fairly common theme for you - it's not really my thing, but there plenty of other jokes to choose from here. I'm an avid supporter of "come up with something as far from what the prompt intended that you can get away with", and I think that's part of what you were doing here, so I respect it, but for the reasons mentioned above I think it was missing a bit of spark to make it really stick with me.

I'm still glad I got the chance to read this though and I hope to see more stuff from you in the future.

Thanks for your review! :)

It wasn't supposed to be a comedy, but I have a  light-hearted style so I guess it ended up being close to one. ^^

I really came with a progressive story, discovering more as you go further into the forest, but the combat system was dropped as you guessed. There was supposed to be a tiny adventure in the forest before each scene, with some battles against wild wolves pack. Without it, I think the funny scenes became too concentrated.

Positioning your sprites in more natural spots is something you may want to work on for next time.
I know, I even would have liked to do more animation with them. I cut it for time (because I didn't want the text box to hide them then) and just top-centered most of them as illustrations rather than placed sprites. >.<

So, for your curiosity:

- No idea why the text turns blue during part of the scene with the chief.
I wanted it more "dark" than blue... It's some effect to go with the fact that the hero is despairing, getting his hope darkened. I would have put it at other moments too but it was just a detail so I saved it for time.

- Not sure if the "click 'fight' to win" thing was making fun of RPG fighting mechanics or if there was an actual fight system that got cut to jam constraints.
Cut to time constraints..
The fight system would have been original if I managed to do it. >.< In a nutshell it was about finding who is the alpha male through the enemies behaviour so as to shoo away the whole pack.

- When Amandine returns to normal size after her first time being giant it looks like she's attached to a masculine body with no breasts. Not sure if that was intended.
I don't find it being that masculine personally, and the sprite was so cute I wanted to use it. I spotted the flat breasts but I betted nobody would notice... ^^" I should have edit it to enlarge them.

I'm still glad I got the chance to read this though and I hope to see more stuff from you in the future.
Thank you for the kind words! :D
Well, I spotted a game jam starting with the theme of Growth so... :P

Ah, well, sorry for mischaracterizing the intended genre - I think most of the points still stand even it wasn't supposed to be strictly a "comedy" per se. I typically gravitate towards stories that can tell a good narrative and have good characters without taking themselves too seriously, so I'm totally onboard with the lighthearted tone regardless.

For this particular project, I'm not sure if more in-depth fight mechanics would have actually helped or hindered the pacing, but I think it would be cool if you developed something similar for a future game when you have more time to cook. Want to get into the action and fight for the thicc wolves >:]

For the text color thing, something you could do to make that clearer is for the text to gradually go a shade darker line by line. It's a lot more tedious to write that way, so I get why you wouldn't want to do that for the jam though.
