I AM RATING THESE ALL THESE JAM SUBMISSIONS RELATIVE TO ONE ANOTHER. THERE ARE HIGH HIGHS AND LOW LOWS BUT PLEASE DON’T TAKE THIS TOO PERSONALLY, AFTERALL, WE ALL ONLY HAD A MONTH.
I’VE ALSO ONCE AGAIN VERY MUCH PROCRASTINATED ON DOING THESE JAM REVIEWS SO THESE ARE BASED ON MY MEMORIES FROM 10 MONTHS AGO.
Implementation of Theme (1):
???
Story (1):
I have no idea what the story is.
Presentation (2):
There was a lot of custom assets but it’s not in style that I like regardless of my gender preferences.
Creativity (1):
The minigame, even though there was no skill whatsoever involved, was memorable for what people said about it during the stream.
Total (5):
I’m glad that the creator seems to release a lot of projects regularly and got experiment a bit in a Furry Jam.
I wish I knew about the Werewolf Jam that you also submitted this to. I feel like we could’ve gotten more cross-Jam utilization that way.
The story briefly: Suspicious clouds are hiding the moon which weakens werewolves to the point they can't survive much longer, lose sanity and just becomes wild wolves. In your journey you fall in love and find out that the clouds comes from a ritual barbecue in a volcano by an evil dragoness. You fight, save the day and have a happy love end.
I have released a lot but it's merely rough drafts. v_v
Honestly this was a hilarious entry. I loved the absurdness of it all. From the breakneck pace of the story to the enormous assets that every character had (I mean just look at how big the chief's tail is! XD).
I can't really give anything meaningful in terms of things like grammar issues, the occasional spelling mistake, and the floating sprites. Since a couple of others have already commented about it.
A funny little story to put a smile on my face and some eye-candy to boot. Nice job!
Thank you for your comment. <3 It relieves the disappointment of the low ratings a bit.
Absolutely loved this. Wonderful art, the story is silly, but fun, and I really hope to see more from this artist <3
Thank you! ^^ <3
I was responsible for streaming this one on the server, and did my best to narrate it in the most serious, deadpan manner I could muster.
This was certainly a trip! Probably more than the other entries I've read so far, this one explores animalistic traits and instincts... so often in fvns, the characters could be replaced with humans and make virtually no difference narratively but that's certainly not the case here. And the "full moon" as the light in the dark was inspired.
Ooh! Thank you for doing your best. How can I watch the stream? The link in the SuperSpreadSheet just sends me to the main page of this jam discord server, and I can't find where the stream after searching either.
Oh, sorry, it wasn't recorded, it was presented live... several of us take turns reading all the entries on the FVN server, and several people on the stream voice the characters. Due to the nature of the content and the sheer number of entries (53 this time), they usually aren't recorded except for special circumstances unfortunately, but we did have fun reading it. 🐺
several people on the stream voice the characters
Ouch, no that looked really super fun to see! >.<
For what I see it happened while it was 4 AM where I live...
At least I am glad you all had fun. :)
Absolutely unhinged. But please take that as the compliment it was meant to be. This was a wild ride from start to finish, full of extremely voluptuous bodies and insane yet intriguing action scenes. There's an obsession with big butts that pervades the very fabric of the story, and by god, I would not have it any other way. This VN was made with passion! Sure, the writing is close to nonsensical at times, and there's a lot of floating sprites that break the immersion a little, but I was very much not bored during this. There were so many wild plot points brought up in such a short time. I mean, the barbecue? The derg? The colloquial usage of a full moon becoming literal?? And, man, those sausages looked good. You have a beautiful mind. Thank you for making this. (that being said, I had to be objective when rating this, and I do think it could have used some work to really wrap up the absurd plot)
Thank you for feeling the passion! ^^ I enjoy a lot seeing people enjoying it! <3
It's ok for the ratings. I know it will be low on Story, I cross my finger just to pass average on Presentation, I really hope to be good on Theme and I don't know what to expect on Originality as I guess it's even more subjective, but I am attached to get a good one too.
I agree the project is hungry for some more work to get nicer. Time limit pushed me to reduce what I could feed to it. >.<
Fortunately there is a unranked jam about sexy werewolfs starting in a month, a perfect opportunity to complete it!
A lotta butt references in this one, my guy here is definitely of culture. Regardless, I’m sure given enough time and polish, this VN can be a decent one. But for now, the writing needs some rework and editing. Really clever way of using transitions to indicate movements and actions. I also like how you use the MayWolf’s theme as an idea for worldbuilding. Overall, I appreciate the effort put into this, but yeah, I’ll let you cook :3
While a lot of it is undoubtedly due to the difficult development process, I'm afraid this is a pretty rough read on the whole. There are a lot of surface-level polish issues – the French menus, the floating sprites, some awkward prose – but the narrative also just feels quite hurried and inconsistent in tone. Even as a comedic porn game, the intermittent horniness is a lot; for instance, the wolfess (who gets to say like one line in total) fails to feel like an actual character, and the plot leans more towards baffling than funny. The game also comes off as paced around the battle system, making its absence hurt on many levels. Still, congrats on managing to submit this version to the jam!
Honestly, not every story has to be a deep deconstruction of philosophical ideas. Some can just be about shamelessly horny adventure like this one just for fun. Good for you for embracing what you want.
I’m not gonna say much since I’m probably not the target audience. The writing is not flawless, and some parts feel like they were lost in translation somehow. Regardless it’s still a fun read.
I read this entry with some friends and, boy, was it an experience.
I need to preface this by saying I'm definitely not the target audience for this work, considering this appears to be a very horny heterosexual piece with some specific... fixations on certain body parts and proportions. But I was more than ready to give it a fair shake.
Unfortunately the VN, as it currently is, is in such a rough state that I find it difficult to appreciate it for what it was probably trying to do. The prose is riddled with mistakes and ESL-isms which sometimes make the text genuinely difficult to understand. The sprites are often positioned irrespective of backgrounds and their sizes tend to be all over the place and the music feels a bit repetitive.
I quite liked the backgrounds you used, but like everything else they lack a unifying artistic vision. The art styles are all over the place.
Even beyond these issues, there wasn't much in the story for me to latch on to, if you take away the horny stuff. It is structurally quite weak, it's a lot of going back and forth from the village to the forest and vice versa and having weird random encounters. Does the protagonist even end up using the "Love Perfume" he acquires?
What I will say is that the VN is so unabashedly shameless and out-there that my reading group and I were having a lot of fun with it despite its flaws, eager to find out what crazy thing was going to happen next.
everything else they lack a unifying artistic vision
I really tried to have the most homogeneous artstyle, and personally I feel it works. It's very hard to gather assets with right to use...
The prose is riddled with mistakes and ESL-isms
There is mistakes but I am shocked you couldn't even read! I searched some online dictionary deeply, reading the comments of native english to check a lot. Do you have some examples of ESL-isms I missed? I already know there is a pronouns mistake.
Does the protagonist even end up using the "Love Perfume" he acquires?
It was the start of some content I couldn't finish in time. I hoped it to look trifling, like just an embarrassing gift. ^^"
At least I am glad my work brang some fun. :)
> I really tried to have the most homogeneous artstyle, and personally I feel it works. It's very hard to gather assets with right to use...
I think the assets you used are fine on their own, but I don't think the mix of artstyles comes off as purposeful. For example, most of the backgrounds are pixel art, the sprite of the protagonist is very anime, some wolves are of the more realistic beastman kind, some have cartoony exagerated body proportions, etc.
> There is mistakes but I am shocked you couldn't even read! I searched some online dictionary deeply, reading the comments of native english to check a lot. Do you have some examples of ESL-isms I missed? I already know there is a pronouns mistake.
Just a random example, because I remember my reading group was confused about what was going on. "Both of you freeze out of fascination for the new wolf appearing." We weren't sure how many characters were involved in this scene, "both of you" makes it seem like it's referring to the MC and the wolf he just fought, but I think you probably meant the MC and the girl he rescued.
"Both of you freeze out of fascination for the new wolf appearing."
I see. It's not an ESL-isms because it would actually be confusing even in my native langage as long as you remember and include the previous wolf in the scene, but I did fail to quickly find a clearer way to write it in english, and ended up with that tricky wording.
It's the MC and the wolfess (she is not rescued here)! ;)
'The Hunter needs a full moon' is such an earnest and shameless fantasy story. Please take this as praise as I was thoroughly entertained imagining that this was written by a horny guy in the middle of the night, fulfilling every power and romance fantasy that his heart desires. I mean, you have the edgy werewolf sprites, the gratuitous amounts of dump truck asses on display, and the over the top but completely sincere delivery of the descriptions. The way that 'full moon' had a double meaning in this story caught me off guard that I couldn't help but laugh out loud.
I appreciate all the little bits of animation that was put into this, like the battle sequences where the cloak falls off and the main character transforms. I will say it's unintentionally funny when you click 'fight, and then there's a 'bang', and then you win the fight. I'd criticize the repetition of the scenes and settings, but I think that it also adds some charm to it. I'd suggest that if you're making the backgrounds, for the final battle scene, you could've made a cave with a barbecue to really help sell it.
At face value, the plot is pretty straight forward but I can tell that's not what's important to this author. This author focuses on the stuff that people like, and that is dummy thicc ass. You don't need a complex personality when you've got a fat wolfess ass on the screen for multiple minutes. In a way, I feel like the author almost held back in a few spots, he could've really gone overboard with all the growth and sitting-on-him scenes, but I imagine it took a great deal of restraint to only include one sitting-on-his-face scene, and have it be hidden in the final battle. But, I mean, what wolf guy wouldn't get a power up from getting to knead a big ol' butt?
I mean, it's certainly the most unexpected interpretation of 'light-in-the-dark' that I've read. On a more serious note, I appreciate when a story is earnest about the fetishes that it portrays, but I do think that the characters are a bit shallow, you could either really widen the cast size, or give more personality to all the different wolves. Letting us get to know the chieftain before he goes out into the forest, having our friend be more teasing or playful, or even the 'my wolf', giving her a bit more personality beyond demure and soft spoken. Overall, I had a fun time with it, but could use a bit more meat to chew on
"You identify them as kobold thanks to their dumptruck asses" - ah yes, I think I can see the tone we're going for here lol.
I think this is the closest to a full-on parody that I've read so far in the jam, which was refreshing since super emotional gut-punching stories of love and loss do take their toll after a while, but this one also maybe lacked some polish here and there to really elevate it to top tier.
Breaking things down by criterion, spoilers from this point forward:
Implementation of Theme:
Sure, you've got the literal moon being obscured by literal dark clouds and then you have Amandine being the light for both our main fella and the town of loups garous at large since she saves the day and KOs the dragon so they can have the moon again. I'm fine with it. It's not like, groundbreaking, but it's good enough.
Story:
So, I feel that comedy is the absolute hardest genre to get right in translation - there's so much of comedy that comes down to wordplay, timing, and structure that even the slightest difference in wording, syntax, or even cultural significance can be the difference between a joke absolutely slaying and falling flat.
There were quite a few moments in this VN that got a snicker out of me, but there were many more moments when I was unfortunately thinking "this probably hits a lot harder in French." I feel like this also contributed to my other main issue with the story, which is that, while I know the point here is to be over-the-top and absurd, much of the VN felt just a touch too "le random" for my taste. You have enough information in here to set up each of the jokes/scenes, but it never really feels, like, cohesive. Almost more like a string of vignettes or sketches than one structured story.
Presentation:
Honestly most of it was fine in my opinion - I obviously appreciate all the sprites and CGs you created for this on such a short time frame (who's Amandine I'm still thinking about Mirabelle), and the music and backgrounds certainly did their jobs, though there were several instances of sprites sitting in awkward spaces compared to the background. Positioning your sprites in more natural spots is something you may want to work on for next time.
This is going back to the translation bit above, but there were a few questionable presentation choices I found where I wasn't entirely sure if they were actually "mistakes" per se or if they were supposed to be part of the joke:
- I'm not sure why there's a portrait for Mirabelle near the dialogue box. Usually you do that either for someone who's not on-screen (like you do for the MC) or to have that be an emotion-specific image so you don't have to create new full sprites, like for example the main sprite stays the same but the portrait in the corner shows the character laughing or blushing. The portrait for Mirabelle is literally just copy-pasted from her sprite in center screen, so I'm not sure what the point of that was.
- No idea why the text turns blue during part of the scene with the chief.
- Not sure if the "click 'fight' to win" thing was making fun of RPG fighting mechanics or if there was an actual fight system that got cut to jam constraints.
- When Amandine returns to normal size after her first time being giant it looks like she's attached to a masculine body with no breasts. Not sure if that was intended.
Also there's the whole menus being in French thing but it seems like you're already well aware of that.
Creativity:
Judging from your other projects, it seems like expansion is a fairly common theme for you - it's not really my thing, but there plenty of other jokes to choose from here. I'm an avid supporter of "come up with something as far from what the prompt intended that you can get away with", and I think that's part of what you were doing here, so I respect it, but for the reasons mentioned above I think it was missing a bit of spark to make it really stick with me.
I'm still glad I got the chance to read this though and I hope to see more stuff from you in the future.
Thanks for your review! :)
It wasn't supposed to be a comedy, but I have a light-hearted style so I guess it ended up being close to one. ^^
I really came with a progressive story, discovering more as you go further into the forest, but the combat system was dropped as you guessed. There was supposed to be a tiny adventure in the forest before each scene, with some battles against wild wolves pack. Without it, I think the funny scenes became too concentrated.
Positioning your sprites in more natural spots is something you may want to work on for next time.
I know, I even would have liked to do more animation with them. I cut it for time (because I didn't want the text box to hide them then) and just top-centered most of them as illustrations rather than placed sprites. >.<
So, for your curiosity:
- No idea why the text turns blue during part of the scene with the chief.
I wanted it more "dark" than blue... It's some effect to go with the fact that the hero is despairing, getting his hope darkened. I would have put it at other moments too but it was just a detail so I saved it for time.
- Not sure if the "click 'fight' to win" thing was making fun of RPG fighting mechanics or if there was an actual fight system that got cut to jam constraints.
Cut to time constraints..
The fight system would have been original if I managed to do it. >.< In a nutshell it was about finding who is the alpha male through the enemies behaviour so as to shoo away the whole pack.
- When Amandine returns to normal size after her first time being giant it looks like she's attached to a masculine body with no breasts. Not sure if that was intended.
I don't find it being that masculine personally, and the sprite was so cute I wanted to use it. I spotted the flat breasts but I betted nobody would notice... ^^" I should have edit it to enlarge them.
I'm still glad I got the chance to read this though and I hope to see more stuff from you in the future.
Thank you for the kind words! :D
Well, I spotted a game jam starting with the theme of Growth so... :P
Ah, well, sorry for mischaracterizing the intended genre - I think most of the points still stand even it wasn't supposed to be strictly a "comedy" per se. I typically gravitate towards stories that can tell a good narrative and have good characters without taking themselves too seriously, so I'm totally onboard with the lighthearted tone regardless.
For this particular project, I'm not sure if more in-depth fight mechanics would have actually helped or hindered the pacing, but I think it would be cool if you developed something similar for a future game when you have more time to cook. Want to get into the action and fight for the thicc wolves >:]
For the text color thing, something you could do to make that clearer is for the text to gradually go a shade darker line by line. It's a lot more tedious to write that way, so I get why you wouldn't want to do that for the jam though.
Spoiler Alert!
Uh…that was certainly a story of all time. I got me dying of laughter, nice job <3
In all seriousness, it’s really nice that you can craft and submit a (roughly) coherent game considering you are a non-native-english-lonely-beginner-without-drawing-skill-doing-game-in-short-free-time-and-half-the-jam-time. We all start somewhere, even if you start with big butts and being smothered /j
Mostly everything could use a revision though. The plot (except the first scene) feels overly random and well the other ‘plot’ is quite big, humongous gigantus even. There was at least a clear conflict and target for the MC, but the solution felt nowhere near satisfying. I got whiplash a few times reading the plot like, wdym there’s a barbecue 😭 And not to mention the eating ass gave you enough energy to one-tap the ‘strongest’ warrior in the village (I’m just kidding bcuz the combat system is so funny)
The ‘MC’ needs to calm his sausage down cuz Amandine is busy eating all those enlargement-causing sausages already.
The writing needs a break from mentioning butt every other sentence 😆. No seriously, even pornos don’t have that many. Check your pronouns usage too (The Moon should be an it not a he). Well that’s literally it, I haven’t noticed more errors cuz I was busy laughing at butt.
For presentation, the images fits, the music kind of fits, the combat system is inconsistent (there were 4 fights, 2 used the system and 2 is just text). It also doesn’t benefit from POV switching (there was only one part where it switches from ‘I do X’ to ‘You do X’ while in context both refers to the MC)
There’s somewhat of an incorporation of the jam theme, with the moon being the ‘light’ and the smoke being the ‘dark’. The ‘dark’ could also be us smothered under ass /j but I digress. The theme is there in spirit, though MC’s thoughts were so horny that it almost seems like the entire plot didn’t matter
Overall, decent first try, we love our submitters (in a friendly way), and hope you’d improve more in the future.
P.S Sausages? Really? Is this a jab at gay men with their sausages /j/j
P.P.S Chieftain lookin kinda…
Rating: 2123
Edit: Rebalancing of rating to 3222
(I don't know how to make an antispoiler where you have to click to reveal)
I am happy if it makes laugh. ^^
I see you felt what I was worry about and expected by dropping the unfinished combat system and cutting some missing content.
However I am very surprised by your opinion:
I saw a lot being much more excited about butts than that! (๏_๏)
I felt it fits perfectly! I was really satisfied with the musics and ambiant I picked. :/
Gay or not gay, every sausages. ;) The fact that you think of gay first, with the fact that I am the only submission featuring a wolfess love interest (for what I played)... I wonder if I belong to this jam, but it's writen nowhere if it's only about male wolf love interest.
But what shocks me: somewhat of an incorporation of the jam theme
Rated 2...
Ouch! >_< The plot is about the precious but sealed light of the moon for werewolf in an eternal winter night! Plus a thin hope in a darkened future! It's 100% inside the theme! I didn't even find more of the theme in other submissions except maybe one! :c
Damn, I should have finished the combat system... The moon was planned to sometimes appears in the field background and heals your "moonlight health" as if you take a deep breath while enemies lower it constantly as if you were drowning slowly in darkness. There was also supposed to be an expedition with some fights before each scene for the pace.
P.P.S Chieftain lookin kinda…
Hot? :P
Or demonic? Because yes I gave him scary demon eyes to be a big bad wolf. ^^
Spoiler Alert!
Maybe big back bonkers just isn’t my thing, lmao. But I’d love the writing to be less…blunt I guess.
The furry community accepts furries, so you definitely belong here >.< I just felt it’s kind of funny sausages is the one you picked.
Like I said, the theme is there yes, but it doesn’t feel like it’s something present throughout the journey. Sure, you gave a premise that fits in the beginning sequence, but then it’s nearly irrelevant until the final scene (what I’m saying is maybe make everything more urgent to the threat of the moon to really show its presence).
Big bad wolf gonna whimper in no time if I get my hands on him /j/j
But I’d love the writing to be less…blunt I guess.
Yeah this is where being non-native strikes >.< To write in english costs me extra time, I did a LOT of back and forth to the dictionnary to look for the most natural choice of words. I also cared a lot about picking words that fits the atmosphere and convey the feelings I wanted. I prefered that to write a lot but with worse english. I rushed in the end also. ^^"
the theme is there yes, but it doesn’t feel like it’s something present throughout the journey
Ok I see and understand. The feeling more than the world frame... It's true that without the battle system there is much more butt than moon in the middle part... Though it's short and sandwiched between the intro and the end scene with a life-saving light while you faint.
Maybe I failed to immerse you in the atmosphere too. Or maybe we all have a different interpretation of what a theme means.
Thanks for you comment nonetheless, and sorry for being wordy, I am hungry for comments and curious. ^^
Big bad wolf gonna whimper in no time if I get my hands on him
