Wow, very unique! The systems seem pretty deep and complicated, I feel like it would take me a long time to experience everything this game has to offer.

Took me a moment to grasp what is going on but then I greatly enjoyed the subtle complexity of the game. The minimalistic text-only UI forced me to imagine what is going on. It took me a bit of experimenting to figure out how to balance my ecosystem but it felt like a satisfying learning curve. Towards the end the game things became a little repetitive and convoluted with all the species and attributes to keep track of, therefore would have liked a way to get an earlier ending. Overall, very nice simulation - great job!
Great game! Lots of complex and diverse traits and species. It has really interesting decision-making and strategy. One thing that you could add is some sort of notification when a species is close to extinct (maybe changing the color of the species name) cause with so many species it was kinda hard to check every graph every day.
Wow, this is awesome. I was really immersed in this. It's great how you manage to have a game where functionally it's so deep (it really felt like it simulated an entire ecosystem) when technically all you have on screen is a bit of text and a graph. But it's still feel very alive. Amazing job!
Behold, the equine hare! (not sure what happened on day 47 tho xD)
Oh, wow, I don't know if I've ever managed to get that many animals of one species alive at a time. They kept eating all the plants and dying out 😅. I'm glad you enjoyed the game!
As for day 47, I noticed some pretty severe performance issues when populations got too large while playing on itch. It was too close to the end of the game jam to fix correctly, so I added a population limit per species of 500 individuals. I intend to upload a fix for that after the jam is over.
The introduction to this game was a nice, humorous touch 😆It sets a fun tone for the rest of the game. The music accompanies the tone well, too. I'm not very good at strategy games so I think I may have destroyed the ecosystem - sorry! Maybe I will come back and try to improve my run...
I LOVED THIS. Every now and then a text/numbers based game comes along that totally hooks me and this is one. Took me a moment to get the hang of how the traits and everything worked, but it was all laid out very clearly, and the added story elements and names really got me imagining I was setting up some alien foodchain all the way through. I figured I would set up a stable plant base and only introduced the first herbivore about 2 weeks in, likewise for carnivores. In the end I think my world had a lush, varied forest populated primarily by armored pelicans, rhinorabbits, occasionally getting attacked by little tool-using kanga-lions. Made it to day 50 with a score of 486!
Only thing is I did eventually turn on some other music, but that's also because I spent a long time with this. Excellent job!
Nice job on this one, I really like these types of sims. I think it's got a nice UI and you did a good job on adding depth and giving lots of information to the user.
One suggestion I would ask for is to be able to navigate through the menus with a keyboard - it's currently a little slow for me with just the mouse.
I liked it! A unique take on the theme, Loved the simplicity of the terminal, and the music was nice!
it was fun to see big number go up and oh no big number just shot down aaaand woops it's all dead.
Fun game! Nice job
Good use of a classic terminal UI look. I liked the game concept. It was fun to see what we could create.
It would have been nice when "adding" a trait, if it indicated when it would replace an existing one. The mole's "poor eyesight" shows a plus next to "seeing".
Thank you for playing and for your feedback!
I think having a body part label for each trait would've helped with knowing which trait it will replace.
As for the mole, since the mole eyes provide a liiiittle bit of eyesight, they're marked as +. I think switching the +/- to display relative +/- compared to the species' existing traits instead of absolute +/- would help the player understand if a trait would improve or worsen that stat compared to what the species already has.
Nice UI layout and really gives me the feeling of an OS. But the sound was not my type, a bit too loud ,maybe make it 6-10db less when using audio files in general ( on the audio bus settings or the sound file ).
Thank you for your feedback! I will make that adjustment after the game jam is over. I don't have a lot of experience adding audio to my projects, so this is a big area of improvement for me. I do have a volume slider adjustment in the settings menu (accessible from the main menu or by hitting escape)
Such a unique game, with a lot of info to process but you quickly get a grasp on how it works. The interface is very intuitive. Very well done !
This game has the biggest spore vibes and god damn do I love these kinds of simulations reminds me of that one youtuber. Here's my score btw(Might have overdone it with the plant population)
Pros:
-unique mechanics
-easy controls
-Lack of clutter
-Loads of content i.e animal/plant types
Cons:
-No real goal(There is a score but I want a genuine goal like achieving a balance with a quota of animals and plants)
-Music got repetitive
-No overall population graph so i could see my plants/herbivores/carnivore ratio
All in all this is an amazing simulation but I wouldn't necessarily call it a game yet.
This was very cool! The UI was very dense but the tutorial helped me get it, and I liked that there was a ton of info and stuff to parse (I am a data person by trade so dont extrapolate from me tho). I felt like I got the rhythm eventually, basically moving up the food pyramid because carnivores would go extinct too fast if there wasnt a big population base of herbivores. I did admittedly hit a wall about halfway thru, where I wasn't really sure what else to do so I just tried to make the biggest carnivore I could (it went extinct very fast, RIP). I managed to get over 100 points, and I was fascinated by the leaderboard too, very nice add. Well done!
Thank you for playing! UI design is hard, and it is difficult to provide all the information to the player in an easily digestible way. At the beginning of the game jam, I wanted to implement some sort of achievements or bonus goals to breed specific species, but time constraints got in the way. This is something I'd love to work into future iterations of the game though!
I enjoyed your game. The simulation looks solid and well thought out.
The game reminded me a bit of good old turbo pascal ascii games :D
I managed to get around 50 points, which is kinda bad i know :D but i couldnt get a stable ecosystem running. Plants took over the world in the end ^^
If you plan to expand on the i have 2 suggestions.
1. more eye candy so the ecosystem feels more alive. Maybe a window where the animals are roaming and some plants are growing in relation to your populations .
2. a graph that extrapolates future ecosystem development for the next day, next week or next month maybe would be nice too. to help the player with decisionmaking.
Thank you for playing! It's definitely a balancing act to keep each type in check. Everything seems fine and then suddenly the herbivores eat all the plants and everyone dies.
Thanks for the suggestions! I had a lot of fun making this, and I am planning to expand it. My art skills aren't great, but I think I could have some success with combining individual pixel art animal parts together. I definitely want to improve the visual experience, give it more pizazz, and display more information to the player in an easily digestible way.
I couldn't quite get the gameplay in the short span of attention entailed in game jams. Which is a shame, because you can see the love and complexity that was put into the game! Gameboard feel slick, and even if I didn't quite get it (or have the patience to) I had fun clicking around!
